Oh no, those aren't boats. Those are Ambassadors of Cape Dory Yachts. Stunning examples of nautical excellence! Who cannot take pride in being an owner of one of these beautiful yachts? I wish I had one. Oh, wait... I do! (Gloat) I just wish I had her in the water... but the time is coming.... Stan ...

I second Kevin's vote for Pachena KiwiGrip. This is a very thick paint (as Kevin said, like a gel), and very easy to apply. Trowel it on, and roll it out a section at a time with the roller they provide. It will cover minor imperfections and/or discoloration beautifully. It takes time to harden, and...

Re: Neoprene
I wonder if that's what paint-on truck bed liner is. I know it's pretty tough stuff...tartansailor wrote:.... The most practical salt water resistant polymer is neoprene.... Neoprene paint is used on high end trailer under carriages....

Then, after sitting for 2 weeks again refused to start. Honda mechanic blamed the fuel. I would blame the fuel as well. Fermented corn syrup with gasoline? Drives up the price of food, gums up carburetors in no time, and melts some rubber/plastic parts. By government mandate. That's my $2 (2 cents ...

One might say, this is the Cape Dory SAILBOAT Owners Association. That is the historic focus of this group. That seems snobbish, because I believe one gains far more by INclusion than by EXclusion. The question to me is: Would broadening the scope decrease the focus? In other words, would this board...

Re: Old experience
I surmise you are correct, but this board has surprised me before, and I've found it's better to ask than not.Jim Davis wrote: ... small outboard alternators are minimalist in nature.

Hi Bill; To answer your questions succinctly: I don't know. I haven't hit water yet. I only know I am considering quite a bit of equipment to power: VHS, GPS, depthfinder, autopilot, bilge pump, stereo, computer, lights... for a week or more. The impetus for my query is to find out what my options a...

Gratitude to the CDSOA Board
I have sailed before, was raised around boats, and was drawn away from it for far too long. Then, unexpectedly, a Cape Dory fell into my lap. I only knew it was a beautiful (although badly neglected) boat. At the time I bought it, I didn't know that I had inherited a fellowship. I can't tell you how...

Outboard Motor Alternator Options?
I have an 8 hp Yamaha 2-stroke outboard for my CD 25. I like the 2 stroke because it is lighter, smaller, and mechanically simpler than the 4 strokes of equivalent horsepower. Although this engine produces a small current for running lights supplied by the magneto, it's probably less than 4 amps, bu...

I don't think I would recommend epoxy to affix the spreaders to the sockets. First, if you ever had a reason to remove a spreader, or a socket, you can't access the bolt that holds the sockets to the mast. Second, have you seen the prices on those sockets? Ouch! Or the spreader, for that matter. One...

Polyethylene glue
I used TAP Poly-weld. It's about $13.00, and if you follow the directions (which includes a heat treatment to the part) it worked well for me where a fitting was not properly bonded to the tank. I cut a "washer" (=patch) from a milk jug and glued it over the area to reinforce the repair. T...
