Hello Mathias; Thanks for the kind words. It's a nice reward and I appreciate the gift. I've seen the discussions about bridging the gap between the berths. There are two reasons why I haven't really considered doing it. First, it would take modification of the bunk rail. The rail is elevated severa...

Hi Kilgore; Thanks for the encouragement... it's good for my motivation. It's interesting that our hull numbers are so close. We're close to the end of the production line since about 850 were built. As to your question, my backing plates are in remarkably good condition. They haven't caused me any ...

CD 25 Modifications
Since what I'm doing is actually a rebuild rather than a restoration, I am using the opportunity to install upgrades and improvements on my CD 25. Realistically, eveything going into the boat is new. Only the fiberglass castings are original. A while ago, I asked CD owners what modifications they fe...

Re: Mother's Metal Polish
Hi Jim; I don't know what else may work, but what I used was the "Mag and Aluminum Polish" with a buffing wheel. Let us know if it works for you too. Stan It's time to remove the haze on Yankee's portlights. But I find that Mother's makes quite a variety of polishes for metal. Have you gla...

Re: Defender..
Hey Maine Sail.... I'm not finding this price on their website. Can you provide a URL? I'd like to pick up one of these at that price! Thanks! Stan Defender has the Matrix 2100 in stock and ON SALE for $326.79!! That price is actually $3.20 cheaper than my wholesale Defender price. I just ordered on...

If it prevents even one collision, I'd say it's worth the investment. I'm going to re-think the utility of it because $10 is not much to invest... Thanks Cathy. ...we changed course, so did it -- right toward us. We switched on our strobe light and only then did they see us and respond to our radio ...

MASTHEAD STROBE
I've seen a masthead strobe lights advertised. I'm not sure what they're used for. Are they used as a distress signal? Are they used during periods of low visibility, like fog? How useful are strobe lights? If they are useful, here is a low-cost ($10) source: http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-sto...

Re: New Owner with Rudder Questions
Question #1: Is there anything else that should hold the bottom of the rudder shaft in the cup? On my boat, no. The stainless steel shaft sits in the cup of the boot. Does anyone have an exploded drawing of the rudder assembly for the 1973? (The 1978 owner's manual on this site has one but it's not...

Hi Chris; I am also in the process of restoring a 1981 CD 25 #794. I have redone the electrical panel, including the addition of a distribution panel. I built the electrical panel from a sheet of aluminum. I am not a machinist or an electrician, but if you have basic skills and tools, it is possible...

Re: Hi Stan
Hi Stan - Of course it is the point of the board, but your advice just led to such an unexpectedly glorious result, I had to thank you in ALL CAPS. Hope that's okay!?! Yes, but it made me blush... I'm sorry I failed to mention that it's in the automotive section. The one thing we couldn't figure wa...
