Re: Solo, Nonstop Sail Around The Americas
A pretty good Washington Post article on the fellow's arrival in Annapolis. The pictures are terrific. Check out the crap on his hull--how does that happen in 10 months? http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/othersports/sailor-matt-rutherford-welcomed-home-in-annapolis-after-sailing-solo-around-the-a...

CD27 for $7,500
1981 Cape Dory 27, #200, needs new owner with more financial resources. With two children in college, I'm struggling to come up with slip fees. And the boat just isn't getting used enough. So I need to let her go in the interest of family harmony and financial need. She's in good shape, but will nee...

radiator shop
What a great idea to use a radiator shop! OJ was sending me in the right direction. Anybody need some 30 inch long tube brushes? I can use the rest of the denatured alcohol in the on board stove that I've never used. (That coffee brewing thread really had me yearning to brew some coffee on board.) T...

denatured alcohol and long brushes
After a few rinses with a hose, I'm seeing a fair amount of bare aluminum at the bottom of the tank. I put in some denatured alcohol which seems to be dissolving some of the black crud. I ordered 30 inch long tube brushes from justmanbrush.com in Omaha (prices seemed reasonable). I'm figuring I can ...

access port and removing the fittings
The access port idea is solid. It would be great to get your arm and rag inside the tank to wipe it down. But cost could be a factor. I would have to get somebody to cut the 6 inch hole, and that might not be big enough, and then I'd have to buy the port, and here's a good looking one with a good re...

chlorox to clean diesel tank?
The algae got in the 12 gallon, 31 year old aluminum diesel tank of my CD27. I got the tank out--that's another story--and it's here at the house. Looking inside, there's a thin black coating on the bottom of the tank. If you scrape it with a long screw driver it scrapes off easily. I was thinking o...

Reviewed in Rolling Stone
Their Cape Dory album just got three and a half stars in a review in the latest Rolling Stone. With a review like that, I would think those $12 tickets for their March 5 show at DC's Rock and Roll Hotel will go pretty fast.

Solomon's Navy rec facility
The Navy has a recreation facility in Solomon's, just west of the bridge, with a nice dock and boat storage. It's convenient to some great sailing on the lower bay. It's a drive from Alexandria, but the Navy rates might ease the drive.

Cape Dory 27 #200 For Sale
Asking $12,000. #200 was built in 1981. By all accounts, she has been way under utilised. Although she accomodates four for sleeping, I don't think anyone has ever slept overnight on her. Located in Mayo, Maryland off the West and Rhode rivers. I'm her third owner but I cannot afford to be a retired...

First Pride of Baltimore sank
"On May 14, 1986, returning from Britain on the trade route to the Caribbean, what the US Coast Guard later described as a microburst squall, possibly a white squall, 250 nautical miles (463 km) north of Puerto Rico struck the Pride. Winds of 80 knots (150 km/h; 92 mph) hit the vessel, capsizin...

I should have let this alone
You're correct. As I mentioned in a pm to Sea Hunt, I should have just left this alone. However, in my defense Wikipedia offers this with respect to Tea baggers: "The activity has become more prominent in the media, and the term is used to describe the Tea Party movement as a form of ridicule, ...

You might give Bacon's in Annapolis a try--www.baconsails.com
Their on-line inventory is large and their grading is pretty accurate. I've also found them to be pretty good to do business with.

Congratulations on a great meeting
My hat--the one I got at the meeting--is off to all those who put together a wonderful annual meeting for the Cape Dory Sailboat Owner's Association in Havre de Grace yesterday. It was my first annual meeting, and I wish all the folks I met there were my neighbors. I can't imagine a more civilized l...
