Thanks, Scott

While I'm sitting here trying to figure out how to post pictures on the BBS, my friend Scott does it for me! Now I have to explain them -- a fair trade, I'd say. I don't know if my solution will work on a CD-25 but it does on a CD-27. I simply cut out the bottom of the bulkhead on the starboard bunk...

Hi Ned, Hi Ned, Welcome to one of the best sailing areas on the east coast. Hope you decide to join our local CD Fleet! I was the CD dealer here in Oriental for many years and may well have one of the old style lights somewhere in the workshop. You can have it if you come over and pick it up. Also, ...

Typhoon bow pulpit manufacturer

The company that manufactured most of the bow pulpits, stern rails, stanchions, etc. for Cape Dory is Tops-In-Quality, Inc. I believe they are in Michigan and are still in business. Give them a try. The standard pulpit height for a Typhoon is 18" but I think they will fabricate a pulpit to your...

One more thing ----

Whenever you decide to make this trip there's another important consideration to keep in mind that I failed to mention. That is to stay well east of Wolf Trap light until you're past the northern entrance of the York River. While the chart shows sufficient water depth, what it fails to tell you is t...

I'd postpone for better weather

A couple of comments. I was based at Little Creek many years ago and was also a member of Fishing Bay Yacht Club in Deltaville later when I was building boats in Gloucester. At most it's a 2-1/2 hour +/- automobile drive from Little Creek to Deltaville. Being so close by car, why not wait for better...

Hot galvanizing

I had the front engine mount for the W-13 in Rhiannon hot dip galvanized as the dripping from the old style water pump was causing considerable rusting. The place that did the work is north of Richmond, VA (Ashland, I think). The only problem was they had a 150 pound minimum charge. I ended up scout...

Question about Paneltronics

Hey, Leo, I have dealt with Paneltronics for years and installed nearly a dozen of their panels in various boats. Their technical knowledge and responsiveness has always been first class and their products are top of the line, both in appearance and functionality. What problems have you had with the...

Reality wins out --

Well, Ken, Looks like I owe you the Dark & Stormy (more than one if necessary:!: My on-the-boat testing proved me wrong. It's a good thing to know, too. At some point I may have assumed a receptacle was protected only to find, too late, that it wasn't. That would really be learning the hard way....

a test

It's been awhile since I've done this but I'll test this again tomorrow on both my boats as one has a GFCI receptical as "first" in line and the other has GFCI midway in a chain of four recepticals. From a past test of the AC power systems, using the "test" button on either of th...

"First" in line is not an issue

Aren't there any EE's on this board? It matters not what position in line a GFCI receptacle is installed (AC circuits, remember?) except that it is installed somewhere in the line and then it protects all of them equally. AC does not flow downhill (or downline either). If you don't believe this then...

Impossible to correct (well, nearly)

I have only heard of one 4-108 that didn't leak oil and I'll give him the unique pleasure of chiming in here. (Yo, Dennis) When someone would come into the yard with a 4-108 oil leakage problem, my engine mechanic would roll his eyes, throw up his hands, and tell the customer that he would try to fi...

Oriental and Ophelia - lots of adieu about not much

I was in Seattle during Ophelia but made some preparations prior to leaving just in case. When the strike became imminent, Ron Turner, my neighbor, further secured the three boats at my pier. Thanks to these efforts, damage was minimal, consisting mostly of some minor pier damage due to the days-lon...

Reedville-to-Norfolk in one day

Rich, This is an easy one-day run. Be sure to time you arrival in Norfolk for daylight hours, though. If you've never come into Norfolk area after dark it can be quite intimidating as the shore lights (and there are thousands) completely obscure the nav markers unless you know exactly what to look f...

CDSOA membership vs. CD board registration

It seems some are confusing CDSOA membership and registration on the CD bulletin board. CDSOA membership costs $40 and is not/should not be a requirement to post on the CD Bulletin Board. This is how things are right now and no one is advocating changing it. CD Board registration is FREE and require...

Register on the BBS

I am an advocate of requiring some sort of commitment to an exclusive BBS section that would cut out the majority of spammers and junk mailers. While joining the CDSOA and spending $40 might deter some folks, certainly registering on the BBS would not be too much to ask. I cannot understand why a pa...
