Spartans

Yes they're Spartans and as far as I could tell they were fitted at the CD Factory/ OEM.
Occasional servicing/ regreasing and they're an excellent thruhull.
IRIE now resides in S.C.

Typhoon Weekender Cockpit Scuppers

This link should bring up a view looking aft showing the stbd. thruhull on my 1985 CD 19. The seacock is mounted on a plywood pad which sits in a liner cutout sized to accomodate it. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1138028/Stbd.CpDrain.JPG The cockpit floor sits only nominally above the waterl...

Calculating submurged weights

John, Start with this link for a good cross section of weights and densities; http://www.reade.com/Particle_Briefings/spec_gra2.html For a quick estimate, Iron/ steel will run approximately 500 lbs per cubic foot and a cubic foot of sea water is 64 lbs. Therefore your 35 Lb anchor representing 7% of...

Re: It is addressed . . .

Greg, see page 125, Propellers, Various Handy Facts. Cheers, John V. I've separately extended an apology to Mr. Vigor for not fully reading the Index in the referenced Work. That said; My logic tells me, if the pressure of the water applied to the curved blade of a propeller, no matter how many fix...

I consulted an important publication and a recent addition to my Library, "The Practical Mariner's Book of Knowledge"
and this didn't seem to be addressed?

For Bedding, 3M 4200 or equiv. For the dimensions on the teak combings in the cockpit, I would suggest you get access to another Ty. Use strips of panel board coped and trimmed at the ends to make a template directly off the part. Anything with curvature like these pieces is best captured directly o...

Source for Teak Stock

What years' your boat? Useful to have that data in your Site Profile. I have some pre-'80 style, both toe and rub rail that has parallel sides (later stuff is tapered) or Try http://www.mysticmarine.net Ask for Duncan Maio, I obtained two boat lots from him several years ago. He may still be milling...

Panic and Stress debilitating

Have to agree, getting oneself aboard in calm waters on a Rope Ladder is a challenge. My new Ericson I31 will have these Perko/ W&C type steps installed on the external rudder;

Bens' masking tape Trick.

I won't claim to have invented this since I saw it done about 20 years ago on Motor Yacht Widow Frames. I at least remembered! and used it successfully on many applications. Probably a good idea to do a couple of mock-up tests to see what width looks and works best for you. A 1/4" fillet is eno...

A note on sanding toe rails/ rub rails

A suggestion, if, in spite of what Neil Gordon recommends you're determined to sand and refinish your Toe rails and Rub Rails I have the following suggestions; To avoid sanding the adjacent fiberglass gelcoat (which will invariably happen!) locate some thin flexible sheet, ABS plastic etc. that can ...
