another option might be...
to build your own. Here is a Bolger Nymph being towed (sorry the pic doesn't show the dinghy better). It has a plank running down the centerline which makes a great seat because you can position yourself anywhere along it for proper balance. If you don't mind a dinghy with funny wrinkles
(faux lapstrakes), there is the Montgomery 6-8 and 7-11, if you can find a used one (I couldn't recommend new). The 6-8 was the Pardey's dinghy on Sarafyn (referenced in one of their books). Here am I in a 6-8 at a (2003?) Lyle Hess get-together. That is a 26' Hess design in the background, "Po...

Russell, you might want to talk w/
Donna D of the Tartan 34 "Sin Sal" on the CSBB. She and Max replaced their sole, IIRC, with actual solid teak boards / holly battens or some such. I forget the details...

Cape Dorians sailing in Ohio: important info

One place I was hoping to explore
but didn't have the time for on my trip to the area, was the little tiny cove in the northeast corner of Cape Poge Bay (Edgartown Hbr). It looks like it might be really tight getting in but it would be fun to see if a fellow could! Around the corner from Cuttyhunk: <img width=540 img src=http://www....

http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/Story?id=5028555&page=1 Another advantage of a keel like a Cape Dory's is that the leading edge is sloped nicely, which can often lessen the impact of a collision. A guy was motoring a fin-keeled S2 9.2 up in the rocky North Channel of Lake Huron when he struck a s...

BSaul, I agree that the pin...
shown on the Spartan page is the on in the center of your mast. The sleeve that the cotter pin holds would be inside the mast keeping the pin centered. Notice how the tabernacle shown on their page lacks the second set of holes? Do the holes in your tabernacle appear to have any anodizing to the ins...

I apologise if this is out of line. "A fellow sailor on the Cruising Sailor's Bulletin Board has a daughter, Olivia, who is in an online contest on behalf of her library and herself. Olivia could sure use votes from fellow sailors (link below). Olivia, cruising kid (lived aboard for two years) ...

Ned, is the fractionally rigged mast
flexible enough that mast bend (and thus sail shape) is controlled with an adjustable backstay?

I find that....
if I just tie the downhaul to the jib halyard, when pulling down the top hank wants to roll over and bind, making it tough/impossible to get the head all the way down. So, I capture the downhaul in the top couple of hanks along with the forestay. That keeps everything in line and smooth. As for hard...

OJ, I would guess
that the main reason (or at least a good one) for including dates/hull numbers is because it often communicates the "state of the design" to others since builders often make design "improvements" during the life of the build (often when the molds have reached their useful life an...
