I have #6's on my 17' boat. Here's a step-by-step I shot once when servicing them:

a design flaw (repair w/ modifications -gusset?-)


a maintenance issue (simple repair)


just overtightened back/fore stays? (simple repair + adjustment)

Could there be some amine blush remaining on the surface of the epoxy? That might inhibit setup.

A green dish scrubby and water will remove it.
