Want to Buy: CD28 Dodger and/or Bimini
Looking to add a dodger and bimini to our 1984 CD28 (sail), and wondering if anyone has one or both they are looking to part with, either just the frame or frame and canvas.

Avanti returning home after one year of cruising
Hi All, Avanti and Crew have returned home after thirteen months of cruising. We visited Bermuda, the Bahamas, and a majority of the east coast from Maine to Florida. Our little CD28 sure has been a trooper! We updated our Blog and put together a video summary of the past year, including some great ...

Re: Avanti Cruising the Bahamas
We suffered an engine failure last week. Because of the notorious Florida currents we were forced to get a tow to a marina. The good news was that it was only the damper-plate that broke and we were able to get a replacement very quickly. The bad news was that because of positioning we were required...

Re: Towing a Dinghy
Just like everything else in boating, it's a matter of the compromises you wish to make. The designs you have mentioned will all meet your needs. Generally, in order to tow well a dinghy will need good directional stability, or tracking, normally achieved via a skeg. You also want a dinghy that will...

Re: Avanti Cruising the Bahamas
Pre-production has begun on our next sailing video! I also added a new page to our blog: Sailing Videos. Now you can find all of our videos in one place instead of hunting through the archives to watch them.

Re: Avanti Cruising the Bahamas
Thanks everyone for the kind words. Andrew and I just recently had some guests aboard Avanti . Four people on a Twenty Eight foot boat for a week was a challenge but everyone involved had fun! We wrote a blog post about it and you can read it here: http://sailavanti.blogspot.com/ Keep warm everyone!...

Re: Six Months Of Cruising on a CD28
We did in fact make it to the Bahamas! This winter is turning out to be much different than last year when we were wintering aboard in Annapolis. I started a thread in the "Cruisers Corner" forum. I will try and post there when we update our blog for those following our progress. Cheers, K...

Avanti Cruising the Bahamas
Hi All, Andrew and I have been enjoying the Bahamas for three weeks. Avanti , our CD 28 is often the smallest cruising boat in the anchorage. Visit our Blog to follow our adventures while we continue to cruise our way through this beautiful string of islands. http://sailavanti.blogspot.com/ Cheers, ...

Re: Six Months Of Cruising on a CD28
Part III of our mid-cruise checkup is now posted to our blog. We wrap things up by talking about our dinghy choices, and the biggest change we wish we had before starting our cruise. Check it out at http://sailavanti.blogspot.com/ To answer Russell's earlier question: The original intent was to have...

Re: Six Months Of Cruising on a CD28
I did it using one of the washdown pump kits, the one that comes with a pump, hose, nozzle, switch with fuse, and hose connections. In my case I used a Johnson Pump as it is what was most readily available, and cheaper than buying all the parts separate. From there I found the smallest rubber-maid c...

Six Months Of Cruising on a CD28
Andrew and I have now been living aboard our CD28 "Avanti" for over a year and have been cruising on her for 6 months. We've made a lot of changes, some of them good, some we would do differently. We have posted parts I and II of a six month progress report. Hope they give fellow CDers a f...

Re: LED Anchor Lights: Coast Guard approved?
As it was explained to me by a LED navigation light manufacturer regarding the LED replacement bulbs: Look at the original bulb: the filament is going to be a very narrow strip, essentially a line emitting light. The lenses are designed to amplify and spread that line into the proper arc visible at ...

Re: G10 for chainplates
I used 3/8" G10 plate to anchor and support our inner forestay. By my calculations it would support more than 7000 pounds before failing via tear out (the clevis pin tears out like sticking a pencil through a piece of paper and pulling). Even assuming a less than perfect bond to the hull it exc...
