I replaced all of mine, the 6 small and the 2 large, with bronze New Found Metal ports. It was quite a job. There was only loose plywood fillers between the cabin and the liner. I glassed them in to provide a solid foundation for the ports and their bolts. Glad it is done.

You have a point Ron, however, I have always had surveyors divide up their observations into things that have to be corrected, should be corrected at some time, and would be good things to do..., or something like that. My previous experience was that insurance companies focused on the things that h...

Lee, Key points on the exhaust and vent hoses! We already have been through several communications with all three. The surveyor is frustrated as I am. I am basically going to another insurance company. One observation was that fewer companies are dealing with older boats, and are just looking for wa...

This requirement came after a routine survey for insurance renewal. The surveyor did a good job recommending a minor alternation for one of the thu hulls that was loose. I was thankful for the recommendation, and have no problem with the proposed fix. Recognizing the standards issue for above water ...

Engine Exhaust Thru Hull CD 28
I have an insurance company requiring seacocks on all thru hulls above the waterline. I have to admit that I have never even looked at the connection for the engine exhaust. The most convenient way to do that I assume would be to pull the instrument panel? For those of you who have dutifully inspect...

"rubber" non-skid
Well, I intended "rubber" as a generic discription. I agree it is undoubtedly a synthetic, but it is knobby and some what soft and it is so neatly installed I don't this is was added by a PO. Moreover, I seem to recall that others have indicated this arrangement on older CDs. it is definit...

Original Non Skid?
Based on previous posts and how it looks, I think this is an original factory addition.

Painting 70s Blue Rubber Nonskid
My 1976 28 has the blue rubber nonskid. I don't mind keeping the nonskid but would like to change the color. Others I know have sanded/removed the rubber, and painted with newer nonskid paints, but what has been the experience in just repainting the original? What paints and application techniques w...

HIN Number Mystery
Ok, Cocos, my CD 28 Sloop is CPDF007M76B I assumed she was built in 1976, hull #7 However, when you look in the registry there are several 28s built in 1974 and 1975 with larger hull numbers, and a 1975 "Nanook" and a 1974 Folly II as #7 too. The 1976 Phycos is identified as hull #6. Hmmm....
