Re: Changing a transmission

This was all last winter. The transmission got to the point where it would break loose and slip when I reached 12 to 1500RPMs. This was in the USVI and early in the trip so there would be lots of motoring in and out of coral reefs with no margin for error. All parts had to be sent from the states vi...

Re: Teak Problem

Put something on your teak. Varnish, Cetol, oil, anything to keep it from drying out and weathering away. If you keep scrubbing it, you will eventually have very thin boards. Teak is a wonderful wood but leaving it raw and scrubbing it will not serve you well.

Re: Changing a transmission

Cutting away the engine pan to allow shift lever to move. Glassing it in so water can't get under the pan. It is a life saver to have a skinny friend when it comes to engine alignment.

Re: Raven

That was in St Croix. Lots of rainbows but no conch or lobsters for that matter. The fish population was pretty dismal in the Virgin Islands. We found lots of conch in Puerto Rico and even more in the Bahamas but by then, had decided they were not worth the trouble of cracking and cleaning them. We ...

Re: Still Sailing in Connecticut.

I'll be that guy. Routing of the first reef line should not go through one check block. The forward one is for the second reef.

You probably figured this out by now, Steve.

Re: Is Face Book Killing the Forum?

I used to read and post a lot on this forum. It's where I found my boats and learned so much about them. I still find it to be a very valuable recourse. I was somehow, unable to get on for a while due to some glitch I didn't understand. During that time, I found the Facebook site and posted a bunch ...

Re: Where Is The Far Reach--Part III

Glad you are having fun with this, but I wouldn't toss out my GPS units just yet.
I have fully embraced modern navigation systems. Fact of the matter is I would not be doing the trips I do, if I had to rely on a sextant. It is amazing how far we have come as far as navigation is concerned.
