Water heater without electric

Being new to pressure water with the possiblility of hot and cold on tap I have some questions. I picked up my boat late last fall and didn't have too much time to play with it. The PO had taken out the hot water heater because it was rusted and he was on a mooring. I am planning on remounting the b...

Rent scrapers?

If I could find 3 or 4 people willing to scrape the bottom of my boat I think I could afford to buy the scrapers and the beer, Steve.

Sleeping arrangements

It would seem to be a much better alternative to sleep in the V berth with your wife; in any berth configuration than sleeping alone out in the cold cockpit. Steve.

One bad experince could ruin your whole day

Even if that bolt had been used at the factory or when the boat was new it is now a 20+ year old piece of steel that has been sitting in your bildge and is extremly hard (impossible) to inspect. It might lift your boat or it might snap right off when you least want it to. I have taken lots of chance...

Pin rack

Carter, that spot was always at a premium on our Typhoon and I didn't feel I could take it to mount insturments. Looking at the belaying pin rack it would be easy to make a cushion that slipped over a couple of pins and have a very comfy nest in there. Those brass/bronze belaying pins look about rig...

Good Job

What a novel idea to be able to see things like engine RPMs, Temp and voltage while the engine is running and you are underway without someone standing on their head in the way of the helmsman. Or the helmsman can abandon the wheel and try to see for himself. Does the kill cable run up there too? Th...

Interdeck paint

Yup I used the blue Interdeck on the inside of a CD-14 and it looked pretty close to original. I decided to switch to beige on our Typhoon and tried the Interdeck there. It does look good but is much more pink than the CD beige. If you want a good match I think you will have to mix up some non-skid....

Brakes

I have had a tandem axle trailer for many years that I mostly dried lumber on. It was a travel trailer that burned in it's first life. Well I finally spent some time and money on it to make a very nice flat bed out of it. I hauled a Typoon on it a hundred miles or so and it was a lesson in caution. ...

Centerboard

Hi Paul, I don't think there is a steel plate in there. The weight is such that the board is much heavier at the bottom. Like I said it is a nice piece of work but not as easy to reproduce as a flat board. The CD-14 has a plain 1/4 in. steel plate for a board. The CD-10 would need that weight at the...

Serial numbers

As I understand it the serial numbers on the transom were not added untill about 1973. There fore if you cannot find any evedence of a number ever being there it would indicate you are dealing with an earlier boat. Best of luck, Steve.

Batten pockets

If you want to use the gromets you have you might try twine or thread. You could take multipal raps around to gain the strength you need without having a large diameter line and the accompaning knot to mess up the air flow. Sewn pockets work very well but are a pain when you go to fold a sail with l...

CD-10

Oh boy, the rudder is easy. It is 1/2 inch mahogany plywood with the edges rounder over a bit all the way around. Ta da, your are done, and have an original rudder. The center board is a beautiful piece of work that should always be tied into the boat. The reason it should be tied in is that it is v...

Salt

Salt is a very traditional solution to the freezing water in the bildge problem. It stems from the fact that fresh water rots wooden boats and that frozen water is probibly not too good for a wood boat. Some salt in the bildge of a wooden boat is probibly a very good thing and it should not hurt a g...
