Depends
A home equity loan seems like a good way to go as far as a tax advantage is concerned. If the equity in your home is maxed out and you are borrowing a large portion of the purchase price of the boat and you have few other assets then it may not be a very good idea unless you figure they can have the...

Yard broker?
Geez it would have been nice if the yard would have tried to start the thing once before the potential buyer showed up for the big black splat. It says alot for the engine that it started right up after all that time but it would seem like you would want to be sure before a buyer was interested and ...

Spinnaker gun?
Okay spinnaker gun is a new term for me. Just how does one use such a device? I can only piture the old Western movies where the hero shoots off the hangmans rope just in the nick of time to help out his ole buddy. It would be kind of a tough angle to shoot off the halyard if things started to get o...

Access hole
So the PO went straight in through the front eh? Do you have the a cabinet just forward of the ice box? I was thinking I could get at the drain through the side of the cabinet. I set a 1/4 straight bit in the router just a bit deeper than the plywood thickness to cut the hole in the bottom and it wa...

Talk to the Groco people
I spoke to them about rebuilding my head. The guy said I could convert to the newer model and rebuild my head that came on the 1984 Cape Dory. He cautioned me to check to see if the plastic base was cracked at the elbow before I bought the kit. Mine had some minor cracks right where he said to look....

Ice box drain on a CD-30
Has anybody found a way to get to the ice box drain line connection at the bottom of the box? I can just feel it by reaching in from the engine compartment but doubt that I could reattach a new hose if I could get to old one off. I tried cutting the bottom out of the cabinet next to the box but ther...

I've been wrong before (alot) but I don't think the Typhoon eer came with a cove stripe. That doesn't mean it wouldn't look good. Lots of the other CDs had a stripe but I don't think it was ever gold. So I guess that means you are free to do whatever looks good to you. I am heading to the boat today...

No caulk
I did the same as you and took the wood off the Ty to be finished in the comfort and controled enviornment of the shop. It also allows you to do all sides of the wood so moisture does not get into the wood and under the finish. As far as caulk I just couldn't see the point. By the time there is enou...

The radio horizon calculator is very interesting. Assumeing you wanted maximum range and were able to stand by the mast of a still floating Typhoon you would probibly be about 8' off the water. I figured a 30' hieght on the other end. That gives a range of 12 miles. If you get your TY antenna up aro...

Pop rivets
For fittings that will not see and extreme amount of stress such as you are talking about simply pop riveting them to the spar should be fine. Drilling and tapping is not that much more trouble either. A good hand held VHF would save you all the trouble and wieght aloft of an antenna on your TY. A P...

Search
If you do a search of this board on Ty motors there has been lots of discusion on motor size. In a very short time you may find that you do not even use the motor on or especialy off of the mooring. We found that we only ran the thing a few times a year to motor into tight spots or get home when the...

Stuff
Rich, we could talk for a long time about the stuff our dads saved and wonder why. In dealing with my dads stuff I do not think he was ever more than 10 feet from a screwdriver anywhere in his domain. He did not label individual items but there were drawers full of stuff with labels like: radio part...

Keeping the old as spares
I have read about changing out parts and keeping the old ones as spares that you are shure will fit. I have started that practice with belts and impellers. It does kind of remind me of the old Yankee farmer practice of saving all the old parts. I have seen barns with every old and broken part for ev...

Reefing line in Pics
Hi David, Very nice job with the pictures. I noticed you have a deep reef set up in the main with a line running forward. It looks like it runs through the boom bails then to a block at the goose neck. From there it heads for the mast base and is a mystery beyond that. Where is this line made fast a...

Tankless heater
Jack, I am most interested in your tankless water heater installation. Where is it mounted and how does it vent? If it could be mounted close to the galley sink it would get it near the CNG tanks and shorten the run to the most freaquently used fauset. I checked West and Defender and did not see an ...
