Geez Nancy, not much sympathy on this board. You need a potta pottie and some one to hold the towel in front of the companion way while you use it. Not much privacy on a TY, Steve.

Larry, my pump hose also enters the bilge by running under the galley riser over the holding tank then forward to make a sweeping curve at he access hatch and then down and back to the bottom of the bilge. It is a very simple matter to lift the cover and pull out the hose end to clean off the strain...

When we were getting our Typhoon together Margaret didn't seem happy with the bucket idea either. After exhausting my time and money on the boat I told her I didn't want to spend any more. She became the proud owner of her first piece of boating gear; a potta pottie. I did install and maintain it. W...

Tie it on?

I have been using and anchor bend to tie the rode to a shackle. It gives you two turns around the shackle to reduce the possibility of chafe. I used it all season and the biggest problem I encountered was a muddy knot. Next year I will retie it in a slightly different place. I have a three strand ro...

It only seems wrong

I never thought the routing for the halyards seemed right either. Despite the way it looks I never had any problems with chafing. Do you have a winch on your starboard cabin top for the main? That is common and would relieve the main halyard tensioning problem. What a great boat, Steve.

Strainer

The strainer might be a very good addition to your system. I am always amazed at how much junk ends up in the bilge. A nice bronze strainer not only keeps the junk out of the pump but it also holds the suction end under water. You would hate to go to all the work and expense of rebuilding the pump a...

Hoses

I had a couple of problems with my bilge pump when I first purchased my boat. At first it worked, then I would pump like crazy and get very little water. It was easy to pump. That was an original cracked hose. I replaced both hoses, amongst many others on the boat and it worked fine for a while. The...

My own favorite

A chance not taken seldom comes but once in a lifetime. They did make a lot of Typhoons though. Just don't pass on too many, Steve.

Determining wave hieght with a depth sounder

I have just started reading Ten hours until dawn, by Michael Tougias. It is a rescue/survival story during the blizzard of 78 off the MASS coast. A great read so far. Kind of like the Perfect storm only closer to shore with more factual information about what acctualy happened. At one point they men...

Bottom of the ole oil barrel

It looks like a pretty clear indication that the big oil companies, investing their millions, might be seeing the bottom of the barrel of traditional supply. Maybe conservation isn't needed after all. It should burn nice and clean in our engines, (CD related portion of post), Steve.

Equalizing on Life line site

I found the site that suggested equalizing AGM batteries. http://www.lifelinebatteries.com/manual.php On page two they specify the voltage and time. Some where else I had read this should only be done when capacity is lost and once a year at most. It seems like I would need a shore powered charger t...

Music is great

Just don't forget about the effect those speakers could have on your compass. I was told by a compass adjuster that if you do have speakers in the boat they should remain in one place. The PO of my boat had water proof speakers with long cords that were normally kept above the settees and then could...

Engine access is easy

Wait till you try to get to the transmission. I just got to checking the pencil zinc on my heat exchanger. I had feared the worst because I did not do it in the spring and had no idea weather the PO had ever changed it. In order to change it you have to lay over the motor and unclamp the heat exchan...

Keep the boot stripe

I considered getting rid of the 3/4" white stripe on our CD-30 and just painting up to the boot stripe. Like all else I figured I had best live with it for a bit first. It looks very sharp and really wasn't much trouble. We have a project TY that had it's boot stripe painted over to raise the w...
