Re: Your Opinion? Embarking on a Typhoon Project
I would run away from that one and walk away if it was free. By the time you replace the mast, standing rigging, running rigging, sails, work on the trailer and try to get the boat back into reasonable condition, you could buy a decent Typhoon and be sailing without all the work. I have spent far to...

Re: Is it safe to put this in the water?
Wiggle that rudder around a bit to see if there is excessive wear in the shoe. This should not be a safety issue but is something you should determine before you do too much more to that area. How long is it going to take to sand down to clean glass and gel coat? I would do that and lay on a coat of...

Re: Genoa Block Sheave Replacement.
I have replaced mine with these. a better block with ball bearings for far less money. Probably cheaper than rebuilding your old ones. https://www.garhauermarine.com/product-category/track-blocks-accessories-mast-boom-blocks-hardware/track-car-single-blocks-track-blocks-accessories-mast-boom-blocks-...

Re: Cockpit drain hose.
If the hose has a kink in it then that would seem to be the problem and it should be replaced, Steve.

Re: PredictWind
I really like Windy as it gives you the big picture and seems to be pretty accurate. I had no way of updating it while off shore but you can get a forecast that is accurate for a few days. I have pulled it up and then taken screen shots for a few days to see what I was getting into. The best part is...

Re: Pulpit Harbor (Maine) report
I have never overnighted on one of those moorings, but have never had trouble finding one, with a one liter soda bottle, to tie up to. They make it easy to head into the store, or mail boat dock to have a walk around town or up to the church. I stayed in Moore's for a couple of days and do not remem...

Re: Project: New companionway boards for CD22
Coast Guard, if found stickers help prevent un necessary search operations. The contact information allows the CG to call to see if anyone was aboard when the boat went missing. It also aids in getting your boat back to you if it is found. I haven't seen them on big boats but very good idea for kaya...

Re: Pulpit Harbor (Maine) report
It's my ambition to sail from Sprucedhead to overnight at Duck Harbor on Isle Au Haut . It's about 20 nmi, which is a ways for a Ty Weekender and so I'm waiting for two days of steady winds from the right direction. Has anyone anchored there? I have spent many days, anchored at Isle Au Haut over th...

Re: PredictWind
Predict Wind does not list a CD30 either. I had a good friend feed me weather information on my passages, last winter. He used a Bristol 35 and reduced it by some percentage. Raven was pretty fast with a clean bottom and fresh sails, so the speeds worked out fine. What I found disturbing was about a...

Re: motoring into a fresh breeze
I have had a couple of situations where I could make very little headway, under power. This is the one time when a bigger engine might help. That is never the case with strong currents. It's just not worth putting up with the negative aspects of a larger, heavier motor for those very few times when ...

Re: Typhoon Weekender outboard weight
Honda, 2.3HP, air cooled, simple and reliable, is the perfect Typhoon motor. There is no need for reverse when you can spin the motor. When I was sailing a Typhoon, I would use the rudder until I got into a tight maneuvering situation, then would use the motor to do whatever I want the boat to do. Y...

Re: Shroud Tension for Haulout
As others have said, you want to leave the wires tensioned all the time. When the rig is lose, it can work back and forth, which is what you do when to want to break something. I would say that most boats do not have properly tuned rigs. The yard doesn't usually tune the rig. Yes they do try to get ...

Re: Pulpit Harbor (Maine) report
I went in there a few years ago. I was searching around, trying to find enough room to anchor amungst a sea of mooring balls, when another boat told me to just take a mooring. I did and it was beautiful, but didn't feel I should leave the boat when on someone else's mooring. Not sure where you found...

I never found it to be extremely tippy but I haven't sailed mine very much and not for a long time.
