Re: CD 28 conversion to mid-boom traveler
Adam: We, too, have converted our 28 to mid boom sheeting. The mount we have came off a 36 and I bought on this board. The remainder I bought from Garhauer. Ours is an older model and I adjust it by standing in the companionway and reaching through the front window of the dodger. I took pictures whe...

Re: Cape dory chainplates.
You can get to the back stay fixture by getting in a cockpit locker and contorting yourself to some degree. My fixture was in very good shape, especially compared to the forestay fitting. I just coated it with Ospho a couple of times. Probably time to do that again, arrrguhhhhh.

Re: Advice on how to get at the back of deck fittings on a C
It appears to me that he used snaps. I plan to use one batten, covering the cut and use a ell brace at the bottom of each end. Not sure exactly how to connect the batten, a nut and bolt every so often, top and bottom I think.

Re: Advice on how to get at the back of deck fittings on a C
You are welcome. The real thanks go to Gino for thinking it up in the first place. i was a little concerned about resale once you did that but he just sold his 28 <at his asking price>.
I am thinking about using a wide (1 1/2 in?) batten to reconnect the two pieces.

I am not sure what the inside of a 30 looks like, but I know that getting under the side decks of a 28 is a real pain. You should take a look on down the board at what Ginodelg did to gain access. I am seriously considering a similar project myself.

Re: Bought CD 28. First ? Storage
It will ALL fit. I have more than Neal does and it fits.
NEAL: How large is your holding tank? Ours is in the hanging locker and is 13 gallons. There is still lots of room in there for storage.

Buy a piece of white oak the size of the original and replace it. Not hard to do, just spend some time in the anchor locker. You can also check the condition of the forward backing plate, lots of posts on here about that. ;>)

Thanks tjr and you are exactly right. I just ordered a piece of 1/8 bronze plate. I'll see how that works.

Re: Question about bronze
What I am trying to do is cover the spots that were under the turning blocks for the main sheet on our 28. We moved the traveler to the cabin top. I know I could just fill the screw holes and buff it out some, but I am trying to do something that might be better. Toward that end I found 2 unmarked d...

Re: Question about bronze
I like the verdigris look myself. I thought I had ordered regular bronze fittings, but they turned out to be chromed. Was hoping they would turn green.

Question about bronze
Will chromed bronze eventually become covered with verdigris like non chromed? I think that is why it is chromed so it does not turn green. I hate to be ignorant. ;>)

Re: Fresh water system for your head
Hey Ken,
one further question. When you are using salt water and then rinsing with fresh, how long between pump outs? We have a 13 gallon holding tank (in the hanging locker) and using only salt water we only can go about 3 days.
Thanks.

Re: Fresh water system for your head
Thanks Ken. Good idea, but it seems none of your tanks are located where my tanks are located. I'll be looking for some place to put a 5 gallon jug, though.
