Hi:
Check out Jiffy Jax. http://www.jiffyjax.com/
I have them on my CD-28. No altering of sail or sail cover is required. They stow along the mast and boom when not in use, so no rubbing or slapping on the sail while you're underway.
Regards,
Tony Jeske

Thread Brand
Hi: Many sailmakers mention in their brochures that they use Heminway and Bartlett thread in their sails. It's a well respected brand. Sailrite used to supply Heminway & Bartlett thread when you ordered thread from them, but I was disappointed to receive a non branded "mystery" thread ...

Traveler Mounting
Hi:
I realize that mounting a traveler on a CD-28 isn't the same as a CD-25, but I too, had car interference issues, so perhaps you can get some ideas from my installation:

Good Luck,

Jiffy Jax
Hi : I have Jiffy Jax on my CD-28. I especially like the fact that they are pulled to the mast when not in use. No windage, slapping, abrasion on the sail, etc. Also no modification or replacement of the sail cover is needed, that sold it for me. Or backstay, for that matter. A neat package, well ma...

Scraper
Hi: I too, use a heat gun to soften the Cetol before scraping. I use a Pro Prep scraper and am very pleased with it. It'll need to be sharpened from time to time, but is easily done with a file. Here's a look at one: http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/11211 Between coats, I roughen with a non-meta...

Quieting the mast
Hi Stan: You can affix Ty-wraps to the internal wiring every foot or so, leaving the long tail still attached. The tail will keep the wires from knocking around, but the wire bundle will still be easy to remove and install. "Bow ties" of foam tied to the wires will work, too. I use Tef-Gel...

Stuffing Box Hose
Hi Greg: I replaced the stuffing box hose on my 1984 CD-28 a few years ago. The old hose had clamps on both ends. You'll need to use stainless flat band clamps that look like this: http://www.fastfittings.com/page/1127223 It takes a special (expensive) tool to install these clamps, you may need to h...

Ty spinnaker
Hi Jeff: An asymmetrical, or cruising spinnaker is easier to set, control and douse than a symmetrical. With an ATM Chute Scoop, hoisting and dousing is a snap and can even be done single handed. An asym doesn't need a pole or all the associated rigging, i.e. topping lift and guy. All you'll need to...

Aqua Signal
Matt:
Take a look at the Aqua Signal 80100-7. It's a 5 pin connector with a double O-ring seal. I installed one at the mast on my last CD-28 and was very satisfied.

Tony

Cradle Drawings
Hi Matt:
I built a steel cradle for my last CD-28. I have the drawings, I could e-mail or snail mail them to you. Send me a PM.

Tony Jeske

What's in a name?
Hi All:
This knot, which I, too, use is also known as a Lark's Head and also as a Girth Hitch. I prefer the more elegant (at least to me), Lark's Head.
Fair Winds,
Tony Jeske

Knots, Coachwhipping and Fancy Work
Bob, I really like the fancy work you've done to Zephyr. It's given me some good ideas! Sea Hunt, you might want to get a copy of "The Marlinspike Sailor" by Hervey Garrett Smith. Along with instructions for a Turk's Head knot, you'll find clear, easy to follow instructions for coachwhippp...

Hanging Locker
HI: My CD-28, a 1984, has a vinyl lined hanging locker behind the head to starboard. To port there's a sink with a cabinet below and a small cabinet on the bulkhead above the sink. The small upper cabinet limits access to the chain plates on that side. I expect the cabinet would have to be removed t...

Sail trim
Ned: I'll try to answer your queries: HEADSAIL Beating in light air 1. You'll want a little extra fullness (curve) in both your heasail and main in light air. Just ease the genoa sheet a tad to see the fullness. Have your sailmaker put a draft stripe on the sail and you'll be able to see and judge b...
