Engine hours always include motor-sailing hours ...

So maybe fuel consumption at 2250 rpm while motor-sailing is ~30% of fuel consumption at the same rpms unaided by sails? This is the only explanation I can come up with ... I know my engine hours and total fuel consumption data are good and by the time I need to run the engine under sail, I am alway...

Tach calibration

Tom,
Could be, I've never calibrated mine. It looks like we're getting nearly the same fuel consumption rate at ~5kt cruise though. If you have a low cost means of checking the tach calibration, please let me know and I'll check.
thanks,
Ralph

Fuel consumption

From our latest cruise: Engine hours at refill: 1259.6 - 11 gallons to fill Engine hours at start: 1232.6 with full tank Fuel consumption per engine hour = .407 gal/hr Cruising engine speed: 2250 I fill the tank to the same mark (F) on the guage each time. This cruise was 0.07 above my average, not ...

Mitch,
Sound advice to update the manual to reflect the wiring mod ... will do the same.
We got out for a few hours on Monday. Tidewater Va. sure is pretty in the Fall!

Universal 5424 starter wiring modification - Follow-up

With winterization nearing, I just wanted to report that the wiring modification below(gleaned from 2005 thread contribution by "guest" Tom) has continued to work flawlessly. Starts and restarts without any issues through the rest of the season. If you have intermitant restart failures whe...

CD330 Cruising Speed

Under power with Universal 5424 @ ~80%, burning .34 gal/hour in light wind/waves about 5 knots. I generally use 4.5 knots for route planning to be conservative. I have a CDI 3 blade feathering prop. Prop and bottom condition have an impact ... I keep Liberty in the water year around and repaint the ...

Verizon coverage

Hi Mitch, We had marginal coverage in Kinsale until we got a tower near-by ... but we always had good reception out in the Potomac and in the Bay. I don't know about 3G - 4G reception per se, but voice has been better than other carriers out here in the sticks. ...of course, your mileage ...etc Ralph

Below is the teak hatchboard rack on Liberty. Top view and side view at the Nav station. Only one board is in the rack in these pics. Universal 5424 starter problem - An Archives Endorsement

I had a couple of instances of reluctant restarting after a day's sail which had me searching the archives for clues. A 2005 thread suggested a rewiring mod to the glow plug / starter switches which allows the starter solenoid to be activated without going through the glow plug switch for power. I h...

OJ Thanks for your kind reply. I understand your reluctance to take a stand on Moreys Red under the circumstances ... hopefully your muted endorsement won't bring down a strike from the stepped leader of that "certain faction"! Meanwhile, I'll be checking back for news on the release of Ac...

"Snake Grease"?

Hello CE'OJ I'm about to service my seacocks and noticed your latest post. I know it may be a bit tangential to the thread, but I was wondering if your snake oil line includes a marine grease? I have been using Prof. Irwin Morey's Red but I've recently become concerned about it's reputation. Can you...

Steamed or Scarfed?

Mitch,
You could always do both ... steamed then scarfed. Although I'm not sure if 12:1 is enough for a real connoisseur!

Mitch, Personally, I like it. A kind of C&CD look that might broaden the appeal of the somewhat drab CD36. My only concern is that in a blow, the potentially more turbulent airflow off the slotted rail might cause issues with the foot of the main. Pictures please when you have them!!! Ralph in K...

If it's still available, you should take a look at Mitch Bober's "RESPITE" CD330 in lovely metropolitan Lancaster Va. Check with Mitch ahead of time to get the lowdown on best times to avoid the heaviest traffic.

http://www.dxing.com/rx/icfsw760.htm I have used the Sony model ICF-SW7600GS for a number of years. The link above gives a good description (2nd item).
