Schnooner Bay

I see that you are at Al Holzers, Schooner Bay. I have meet him a few times. I like him. I'm starting the construction of a wooden sailboat and will buy my rebuilt engine from him (probably this winter). I was going to use his marina, but now stay on a mooring in front of the Island and then then ch...

She's Out

My boat should be pulled today, if the boys at La Pointe need something to do. I sailed Saturday and Sunday, for the last sails of the season. I surprised I could keep in this long. Saturday afternoon sailed in some pretty good waves close together. Had the bow under water to almost the mast, a firs...

season still on?

I'm still in at La Pointe. You know that it is rough when a 1,000 footer is sheltered off Madeline. Did just move off my mooring in front of the town. Now tucked in nicely in the marina (shore power is nice this time of the year). Take out at the end of October. Hopefully warmer this week.[/img]

honda genset

This season I bought the Honda 1000e. I have it on my Pearson Coaster. It fits through the cockpit lockers. This is where I store it. With the fuel on off and vent shut it seems fine. Like any thing on the boat I check for leaks and fumes. It seems fine. Since my boat has the Atomic Four I can pump ...

toilet smell

Any tips on order coming from the head. I have a Pearson Coaster with what I believe is the original toilet. It has a flush dry and wet position on the lever. I put the blue stuff in the toilet and pump it into the holding tank. After a few uses in the beginning of the season I start to get nasty or...

Crack

The damage to the keel can easily be caused by more than a "drop". Running into a rock reef could do it. The repair if done right can be just as strong if not stronger. By using modern types of fiberglass, epoxy, and the correct repair techniques the repair can be extremely strong. That be...

one part

I know that I just want to "roll and tip" with an one part. I not interested in getting crazy, just getting the boat in the water for a full season (short season on Lake Superior). Last year after buying the boat in the spring I spent the summer doing a major fiber glass repair on the keel...

prep

The bottom paint is flaking off pretty good. So maybe just a good scrape and new bottom paint. I have no idea what was on the boat before, might be able to find out but probably not. The top side is some type of one part I'm sure. It is a few years old, not in bad shape. It just looks like the last ...

survey

Your the buyer. It's your money. Do not let the seller dictate the conditions of the sale, PERIOD. There are a million used boats out there. If you capable of doing the survey your self and the price is right and you understand the financial risk of missing something than go for it. Otherwise struct...

cape 28

I was looking for a cape dory 28 this last winter/spring. Ending up buying a Pearson Coaster that was brokered by Northland Yachts. I had to do a pretty big fiber glass repair repair on the keel this summer. I finnaly got the boat in the water two weeks, stepped and tuned the mast, tuned the engine,...

Hand Held GPS

I have asked about GPS before. Right now I just want to buy a hand held model. What are suggestions for a good value unit? I do not want to spend alot right now, but want something that works good.

Thanks
