Moray's Red grease
A good dab of heavy waterproof grease solved the same problem on my CD30.... Some 30 years ago Cape Dory folks sent me a bronze fitting with a "O" ring but was never installed.... MORAY'S RED....I believe thats the spelling. been good enuff for all kinds of needs for anything requiring lub...

How about storage for a year or so until you see what kind of arrangements can be worked out.
