Re: Boat Smell and the Hidden Bilge on an Intrepid 9 Meter
Thanks for your insight Steve, but I don't think your Friday Theory holds water. But my bilge pan does. The main source of water to my bilge is melt water from the cooler. The auto electric bilge pump is installed to the pan bottom. As I tried to describe above, other possible sources such as the mo...

Re: Boat Smell and the Hidden Bilge on an Intrepid 9 Meter
Ken, Thanks for the photos. Looks the same as "Sandpiper." I have found that everything flows to the bilge pan. While decommissioning this fall, I first pumped, then wiped, the "bilge pan" dry. Then applied anti freeze at the engine shaft thru hull, and next at the motor pan. Wit...

Re: Boat Smell and the Hidden Bilge on an Intrepid 9 Meter
I have been sailing my I 9M "Sandpiper" since 2015, in northern Wisconsin, on Lake Superior. She has always been a freshwater boat, and very sweet smelling. I have always wondered what is under the pan. Thanks for investigating and posting. If there was any water there, I would expect wint...

Re: CD 31 Versus a CD 30 MKII
Paul, Another thought. When I went from my Ty Sr to I9M (30 ft) I thought I could cruise with 4. I no longer think that. One of my crew members says 2 is the max. Another crew has a total of 3. I personally cannot see more than 3 cruising on a 30 ft. Others may see it differently of course. But my 2...

Re: CD 31 Versus a CD 30 MKII
Hi Paul, I know some really like the CD 31 lay out with the aft head. I like the quarter berth in my CD I9M. A handy spot for groc. I cut a motor access in mine. Also a good spot for anyone to rest while underway. A friend has a CD 31 that has a 3 cylinder motor, not sure what the CD 30 has, but I t...

Advice requested - alcohol combustion chemistry
Today I visited a friend in his shop. He uses direct heat for wood bending, with a nifty little alcohol burner. But he thinks there is some unhealthy chemistry to alcohol combustion. I love my unpressurized alcohol stove aboard "Sandpiper" for cooking. Can anyone please advise about the ch...

Re: Intrepid 9M - winter cover manufacturer recommendations
Hi Keith,
Ship Shape in Duluth, MN made the cover for my I9M. I don't know if they file numbers or patterns. Great cover!!

Re: Outboard Decision for a 22-Foot Typhoon Senior
Hi JD, I used the 6 hp Nissan longshaft in my Ty Sr. I have waves wash over the cabin top, but never had the prop come out of the water. I do not necessarily recommend the Nissan. I needed a very knowledgeable mechanic to correct the slow speed running problem. I also needed a power head gasket afte...

The above assumes no mainsail. To use the main, your arrangement looks best.

Re: Canada's Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area
JD-MDR, My CD stemhead fittings have all had three holes. If your block for the asym pendant (tack) is in the forward most hole, there is no need to walk around. To gybe: -release the leeward sheet -let it fly -the asym is now out in front of your boat flopping around (requires long sheets.) -drive ...

Re: Canada's Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area
JD-MDR, Whether your gennacker sheets are led inside or outside your forestay depends on the top attachment point of your halyard. On my Typhoon SR, a fractional rig, the spin halyard was above the forestay, so sheets were led outside the forestay. To gybe, we released the active sheet, allowing the...

Great photos Paul!!
Thanks for posting! I still dream about that part of the lake!!
Your wing and wing with the asym and genny is very interesting. I hadn't thought of that.

Re: Typhoon weekender sail plan
I suggest that you think about your luff dimension, and make your decision. As you know the boom height is variable. I have seen booms on Typhoons that were uncomfortably low. I was told that people prefer this for racing. I did not race my typhoon, and appreciated that the boom height was not too l...
