Re: Roller furling or Hank on
Another consideration is that there is the limit to the draft that can be cut into a furling jibsaill. While the foam luff is there to allow some draft to be rolled up on the furler, it does interfere somewhat with the air flow at the sail's entry. The draft in a hanked on sail can be designed and b...

Back to hanked-on Jibsails
I have just removed a Profurl furler from my CD31 and am going back to hanked on jibsails. My reasons are: 1) I am always anxious that just when I need to most, the furler will hangup on me 2) Sail selection/change is easier and more part of sailing. From my own experience and from what I see, most ...

Deck Shoe Fav
DuBarry Cruisers. I think they are very well constructed, comfy and provide better support than Topsiders.

Lightning Protection
There is an interesting article in the current issue of Small Craft Advisor: "Lightning Strategies." It seems to suggest that it is a good idea to have a system of protection.

Universal M 25 Crankcase Breather/Vent Hose
I really don't like the current arrangement of the crankcase breather hose which vents oily fumes directly into the atmosphere of the interior of the boat. A couple of questions: 1. Has anyone re-routed the crankcase breather hose of their Universal MD25 to the air intake/manifold? 2. Does anyone ha...

Cetol Cure
(Oops, I inadvertently posted the following as a new topic instead of here)
Cetol and other finishes need a sufficent amount of air changes to properly cure. Since you're doing the work in your basement, there may not be enough air. I have the same problem with applying finishes in my basement shop

Spartan Turnbuckles?
Cathy,
Looking at their website, I don't see that Spartan makes turnbuckles.

Stainless Steel Turnbuckles
Dean,
Do they mfr stainless steel turnbuckles? I can't find any at Defender. I'm thinking they are all chromed bronze or unplated bronze.

CD31 Fuel Tank replacement
Jim,
How did you remove your fuel tank? I have a 1984 CD31 and have contemplated removing mine to inspect and to clean.
Thanks

Monitor Pricing
Evergreen,
What is the "on sale" deal on Monitors? Is Scanmar promoting some sort of "boat show" price?
Thanks

Mockup
I really appreciate all the very interesting comments.
I am planning to do a mockup at the boat based on the dimensions recommended by Bingham (thanks Tod) and will post photos for input and critique.
Many thanks.

CD31 Port Pilot Berth
Happy New Year All, Some of the literature that came with my CD31 indicates a port side sea/pilot berth. It is specified in text and illustrated graphically. My 1984 CD31 has identical arrangement of lockers and bookshelves port and starboard. Very nice, but no pilot berth. I have become very intere...

Universal M25 Fuel Hoses
Due to ongoing air-in-fuel problems, I am planning to rebuild the fuel delivery system on Tillandsia. Currently, there are 1/4" ID hoses installed. Since the Universal Service Manual indicates that the fuel inlet hose is 5/16" ID I'm thinking that I should replace all the 1/4" lines w...
