cleat covers

I haven't had trouble with mast cleats, but have caught the foredeck cleats with jib sheets. I've made wooden cleat covers to go over each horn (bungeed together). Learned this from a racing boat, also helps in reducing "toe stubbing" when going forward.

Congratulations Neil,

The best to you, your son, daughter in law and new granddaughter

Happy sails, our Kate was 13 months when she started sailing, the CD28 v-berth is a great spot for infants.

Winter Cover Frame

I'd have to dig around for photo's but I've followed the directions shown by Tom Young (a former Cape Dory 28 owner I believe) in Good Old Boat Nov/Dec 2004. It's all 1x3 furring strips. The ridge being double thickness. The key is the ridge supports are 1/2 the beam +20%, spaced approx. every 8 ft....

Diesel not achieving speed

Hi All, Just recently, the engine speed of my Farymann diesel does not want to increase more than than about 50-75%. This is happening while under load (motoring), it seems fine while in neutral (idle to full speed). I will check linkage as that would be the easy fix. The prop & bottom were fair...

CD28 Lifting points

We now tie straps of all boats for and aft when we haul or launch at RYC. Good reference points for the CD28 are the aft cockpit/cabin bulkhead and the bulkhead between the v-berth port and the head port. Although if the straps are the same length and cannot be adjusted, she will lift nose down. You...
