Just Arrived

The mailman just dropped off (December 6) my copy of the September/October 2005 issue of CDSOA Masthead. I was so excited I got on the CD Board to let everyone know. I have not even opened it yet to see what goodies it contains. Love the witch on the broom on the back cover. Maybe we should switch t...

compass location

That's a good idea, putting the compass in one of the hatch boards. Don't get a lighted compass with wires to a battery.

Heeling

I found that my Typhoon heels to about 6 inches of dipping the rail in 12 to 15 knots of breeze. just remember that we just got about a foot of freeboard, so that's not bad. My Ty sits lower in the water because of all the junk I have aboard and a 250 pound skipper. :D The other Neil ________ GRAPE ...

Correction

I'm sorry.
I gave the rating for the Portsmouth and not the PHRF.

By the way, the J-24 is rated as 80.9.

Used Trailer.

This last summer I purchased a used trailer for my Typhoon for $200 on Staten Island, NY. It was a little rusty, but no structural damage. Road worthy with working brakes and lights. I had no problems towing it back to New Jersey. A custom made EZ Loader with 5 support pads. At haulout this last mon...

To see or not to see

With a large ginny, get a window in the sail.

It helps to see what forward.

Good Question - I would also like to know.

I currently sail my Typhoon with a 155.
Would a larger sail be useful, say a 175 or 180?
Usually have light winds in July and August on the Jersey shore.

No Lifelines

Yes, it is a beautiful boat. With no lifelines to distract from its profile. My typhoon also has no lifelines. People all the time say it's a great looking boat. I believe that lifelines take away from the aesthetic appearance of the Typhoon. The low freeboard and great shear line would be lose with...

Plastic Squares

I have seen plastic squares at Boat-US/ West Marine store.
They are about 1 foot square and lock together.
I guess you could build a cockpit mat using these squares.

Last year my Typhoon's expenses:

Total $2,177.50 That included a new Honda 2hp kicker. Haul out in fall and launch in spring. Winter storage at marina. Bottom painting. Mooring fee to state (for letting me keep it in the middle of river). Plus a hundred little things to keep her afloat. Don't forget the Typhoon is smaller, so hauli...
