I have a Garmin 60CSX.
It's a great unit - has a barometer, conventional compass and color display.
I bought bluechip data for it and it has been fantastic.
Whatever you do -- definitely get a Garmin.

Ron - yes it is
Hey Ron, That is, in fact, a drifter. It works so well in light air. Of course if I get into anything upwards of 10 knots it has to come down. It can be pretty overpowering on a reach and I am afriad about ripping it in general with heavier winds. I was lucky in that the boat came with a nice select...

Nice Day yesterday
We had a good day on the sound yesterday. My friend Eric took a few photos as we were backtracking. We had already been out to our turnaround spot in back and they were just catching up (alas, he was in a hunter).

Poor Man's Autopilot and Location
Warren -- yep . . that was on the way out to see you. I was somewhere east of Hart Island heading north-northeast to Connecticut. Pretty nice wind until about halfway to Oyster (as you know) boom2it: my autopilot was simply a line lashed to the tiller with a clove hitch and then tied to the windward...

Photos and Warren K.
Hello everyone. I'm so happy to see all photos now being posted on that flickr site. I knew that there had to be a CD owner or two around here with a photo of their boat. I posted two new ones myself. I sailed out to Oyster Bay yesterday and met up with Warren Kaplan. We didn't get to see Warren on ...

seeing each other
Yes. . Carter and I have become friends and we see each other with some regularity as we both keep our boats at the same yard and mooring field. Actually he and I have never sailed together although we have chased each other on occasion out of the moring field or back from the july 4th meetup. I'm s...

Mattituck to Montauk
I love that sailors are such a helpful type. I knew that when I posted my trip details there would be a number of folks offering good sound advice about the trip. It's so comforting and it's one of the reasons that I love being part of the sailing community. Brian, I would love to stop over at Shelt...

Plum Gut, H&M, and currents
Hey John, Thanks very much for the advice. I am certainly aware of the strong currents at plum gut. It has quite the reputation. will be timing my trip so that I pass through plum gut in the first third of the ebb tide cycle. I will therefore have current going with me. Of course I will not try this...

block - 8/30
I plan to be in block island on the 30th of August. I am planning to take my boat out to montauk in the couple days preceding. 8/27 - sail City Island to Mattituck Inlet - this is the ambitious day, but if I have southwesterlies it should be pretty easy. 8/28 - sail Mattituck through plum gut and ou...

Cathy's cabin sole
I can attest that Cathy's cabin sole is a thing of beauty. Actually the entire vessel is so pristine that it makes me want to pull my 25 out on the hard again and start working on it.

My own fix for the Fortress
I had already purchased a Windline bracket mount for my anchor and I HATE to have anything that I paid for go to waste. SO. . . I got out the dremel with the cutoff blade and went to work on it. I modified this mount so it would fit around the mud palms. The results are here: [img]http://ruddermusic...

How do I mount my Fortress Anchor with Mud Palms?
Hi, I have a beautiful new Fortress FX-11 for my CD25. The previous anchor mount (for my old danforth) would hang the anchor from the stock. Unfortunately, those little clips were flimsy and the anchor came out and flopped around the deck in a blow -- not what I wanted to see. I bought a rail (bow p...
