Dinghy selection

It has been a while since I have sought the counsel of the Cape Dory owners. However, in the past, I have received much wisdom. My current problem is this. I am planning to go off on the trip that I have dreamed of for several years. I plan to leave Galveston around April 1 and cruise for 2 months o...

Engine - Typhoon

Pete: I am the proud owner of 2 CD's: Ty and 27. I bought the TY early this year for local sailing (minus a motor). My 27 is on the Gulf of Mexico. I went through the process you are going through by reviewing the posts of TY owners regarding engine size. My impression was that there was a split of ...

Thanks for all your great help

I just bought a Typhoon and plan to sail it without an engine. As usual, input from CD Board is helpful, thougthful and insightful - also humor and good cheer.

Thanks for all your help. I will be making good use of your advise.

Row a Typhoon

Has anyone had any experience rowing a Typhoon. I wonder if rowing would be an improvement over an outboard motor. It could have great advantages - exercise, no gas smell, no broken down motor (except for a possible heart attack) I have rowed canoes and sculls, but not sailboats. In the old days (be...

Windpilot and Tiller play

I have been upgrading my CD-27 for ocean sailing and have had a number of questions. Thanks board members for all your help and input. The last issues that I had related to Windpilot purchase / installation and play in my tiller. Due in large measure to your help, I have solved both problems. Photos...

Loose tiller

My tiller has about 1 inch or so play in it. (i.e. it is loose so you can move it an inch or so before it connects with the rudder shaft) I have taken the tiller off and the rudder shaft is a little wallowed out. That could be the problem. I also noticed that the tiller fitting is like a "C&quo...

Mystery solved

Fred: Thanks a thousand times. You have told me just what I need to know. The picture is awesome. As John explained, we are approaching installation a bit differently. I think mine will just fit, which means precise measurements, drilling, etc.. Further, I will have to undergo significant behavior m...

Windpilot Installation Chap. 2 – Vigor

John: Since I received your email, I did my own set of measurements and I am in agreement with you about the problem. Let me review what I did, the conclusions that I drew, my plan, etc. (wish I could send pictures) I cut a piece of plywood in the shape of a U with insides sloped in. The tip of the ...

Peter's response to "The thing"

John: Let me give you some history. I first spoke with Greg Kruegermann, the US representative. Greg seemed to think that an MF0 mount might work. However, he was concerned that because of the rake in the stern, that it might be necessary to shim out the mount with a piece of wood – around an inch o...

Reply to everyone + further Dodger question

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies. What makes this board great is the willingness of members to share their experiences, so that those of us who have not been there do not go blindly forward. No amount of academic research can replace experience. For those of you who might not know, Peter ...

Windpilot windvanes

I am thinking of getting a Windpilot Pacific for my CD-27. Does anyone have experience with Windpilots? What mounting kit did you use?. Any problems installing?

Thanks in advance for your input
