Re: CD 25 In Water Care
I'm probably the one who made this suggestion (I still do it for my CD26). I use a 70-gallon dry bag, created a pvc pipe "frame" for the top, to keep the bag open, and tie two sections of tow-rope (floating) to the top, so I can grab the rope and pull it up through. You can probably find m...

Marina recommendations on the Chesapeake?
I know this is a general request not specific to Cape Dories, but I'm looking at other slip options. I've been at Herrington Harbour South for 15+ years, and I like several things about it--proximity to the Chesapeake Bay, on-site restaurant, etc., but the increases in slip fees each year are giving...

Re: Lifting Typhoon off trailer
Everything I have ever read about that ring indicates that it is not for lifting the boat, but was used to hold the ballast in place during construction.

Re: I Need a Bag
I think I might be the one who suggested the bag. I have an 8hp, 4-stroke Yamaha in the well of my CD26, and lifting it out is not feasible. I bought (on ebay) a 70l SealLine Boundary dry duffle, and then fabricated a PVC ring to hold the top open. I used two lengths of float line and toss a few roc...

Line recommendations
I had to climb my mast today, and put some of my trust in the main halyard, which is pretty darn old (I also had a mast ladder, so had a little bit of back-up built in.) Anyway, it's really time to replace the running rigging on my CD 26. I'm not sure how the line specifications from 1986 translate ...

Re: Typhoon cabin sole
I would worry that if it sits on the floor, any dirt/sand that got between this grate and the floor would grind against the floor.

You might also consider the Cape Dory 26. Tiller. Outboard concealed in the lazarette well. I have one at Herrington Harbour on the Chesapeake if you want to get a feel for it.

Re: Proper Use of the Typhoon Senior Dual Mainsheet System
I can’t say whether there is any difference—I have never noticed one on my 26. But for those wondering what it looks like, here is an illustration from the owners manual.

Re: CD 22 depth meter
I know you say it is a transducer, but, it would be very odd to just have the transducer and nothing connected to it, and no vestigial hole in the cockpit.
Is it possible that what you are looking at is a dummy plug for a knot meter?

Re: Rebuilt battery shelf
I appreciate the concern. Any suggestions on how far away they should be? The sail is a good 4' away, and the life jackets are probably 2'-3' away.JD-MDR wrote:I always worry about stuff like that being a fire hazard too close to the batteries.?????

Re: Rebuilt battery shelf
Very nice work. Looks professional. Do you have a way to keep stuff from getting tossed onto the batteries? Looks like great storage around them but keeping the batteries isolated from equipment, foulies, tools, etc is important. You probably already have a plan for it. Hmmmm. My system is--nothing...

The original rotted away after 35 years of holding up 70 lbs of battery.

Re: Cape Dory 25 taking on water ????
. . . The drain hoses from the starboard drains run under the storage compartment decks and enter the bilge at that center point . . . . Are you saying that the cockpit drains drain into the bilge???? They're supposed to drain below the waterline. Pages 38 & 40 of http://www.capedory.org/manual...

Re: Electrical question; battery charger
I'm reviving this topic briefly. I finally wedged myself into the cockpit locker and retrieved the old Guest 15A charger. It was hardwired in, with the positives connected to separate posts on the battery switch, and the negatives connected to a common ground. I installed a GFCI outlet, because most...
