removing Cetol

I've used acetone, terry cloth and a lot of elbow grease to remove dried Cetol...although the Cetol had only been dry for a couple days.

CD24

Are you talking about the CD24 trawler that was recently on eBay? I heard years ago the 24 tends to roll too much in adverse sea conditions. Very few were built.

Minwax Polyurethane

I've had excellent results using Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane Clear Satin on all my interior wood woodwork. I apply it to the cabin sole using a chinese bristle brush, but use a soft cloth dampened with a little mineral spirits to rub it on all the other interior teak of my CD27. It's easy to use...

Practice makes perfect (almost)

Warren & OJ... I'm now 58 and for the past few years I've noticed that I don't hop around the boat as gingerly as I used to. It's good to know that one's ability to balance can be improved via practice. I've added some balance exercises to my almost daily exercise routine. Thank you for the head...

Sense of balance deteriorates at age 40

It's rare if not impossible for anyone over the age of 40 to balance themselves on one leg for more than 10 seconds...with their eyes closed.

Wind force increases with the square of the velocity

A 10 know breeze would have a force of 100 (10x10)...a 20 knot breeze would have a force of 400 (20x20)...a 30 knot breeze has a force of 900. Therefore a 30 knot wind is 9 times more powerful than a 10 knot breeze.

Restrainer may not be needed

I have a Harken on my CD27 and haven't had a problem with halyard wraps. To prevent wraps it's important to insure the upper swivel travels all the way up the foil within an inch or two of the top. I have pennants on both my headsails that allow the swivel to travel all the way up when hoisted. My g...

I had luck by putting a lot of pressure on the prop with a big puller and then hitting the prop hub from the side (90 degree angle from the shaft). It popped off with quite a force.

idling a diesel engine

John, I've heard from several sources that idling a diesel for extended periods of time is not good for it. You'd be better off running it at a higher rpm if you want to run it while the boats stationary. When big trucks idle all night long while parked in rest stops in the dead of winter, they are ...

If the batteries are in good condition they won't need much charging during the winter....certainly not weekly or even monthly. Check them at layup time in November and make sure they're fully charged. Check them again in January or February and top off the charge if necessary. Check the charge agai...

Do you really need a new panel? did you try loosening/retightening any connections under terminal screws? You should also remove and clean any fuses and associated contacts...then see if the impedance drops down to a more acceptable reading. Spray everything with a little Boeshield. I also question ...
