Judith twisted my arm

Sailing became enough of an obsession last year that I put aside my then-passion of Appalacian music - the roots of which can be traced back to Celtic and Scottish tunes that literally came over on the boats. Guess I'll be dusting off the open-back banjo this weekend for our usual boat-trip. Maybe f...

That reminds me of our survey-sail...

There were 4 of us aboard the CD270 including the surveyor, when he commented we were "kicking a__" on a newer, 30-something Hunter. The CD's sails are all original from '84, which are a tad blown out.

...and I had never sailed a boat this heavy let alone this particular one.

How workable is lexan?

Are there any tricks, like having to run power tools slower to prevent the material from melting and clogging a planer or router?

Thanks...

Calling all 270 sailors

I just re-read the 270 description from Dieter Empacher Designs where they describe a "sliding chart table forward of the quarter berth". Ours does not have this feature. I'm wondering how this was possibly implemented. Lou?

Thanks!

She forgives me over and over...

She's heavy and stable, and has let me get away with a lot as a new sailor. Even gave us a "mulligan" on our first fouled propeller (Judith, don't you dare leak the details of THAT one)!

Thanks Bill

We were just out having a brisk sail and just returned to find your reply. I was thinking of replacing my current truck (Toyota) with a crew cab (2 soon-to-be teenage sons) truck that is rated to pull the 270. After research, there are the RAM 3500, Ford F350 or Silverado 3500. These have dual wheel...

Possibly no bolts at all!

I'm assuming the construction is the same as any other CD... just shoal draft.

Thanks...

Trailering and what to be careful of

As a new (< 1 year) owner, I tend to be rather paranoid of causing damage until I get to know just what these great vessels can take. As it turns out, the 270 came with a trailer (nice and beefy, with 3 axles). Are there any standard caveats for trailering in general? Given that the keel takes all t...

Steve,

Any chance you have a photo or 2?

I've thought of doing that mod on our 270 which does have a roller car, but is too difficult to release the locking cars while under load.

Thanks...

"Oh John, It's quite simple, really":

^-- I actually have no idea, I just wanted to say that. You aren't "allowing the line to support twice the load", you are distributing the load over 2 lines (you stated it yourself). Due to the static forces (vectors) the line is still subject to 20 pounds, just at the point where the vect...

...which is exactly what happened...

earlier this year renting a J22 the same day we were to meet the broker and lay eyes on (for the first time) the CD 270 we now own. It was one of those straw gardening hats. In retrospect, I'm surprised it stayed on as long as it did!!

I'll take that suggestion, OJ.
