Yes indeed

I've rebuilt several Harley, Triumph and other motorcycle engines and frankly, can't wait to get my hands on my Westie 13 (These engines are dirt simple by comparison). Only thing is, it runs like a swiss watch and always starts right up with around 1300 hours on the clock. The one other expense to ...

OK then, this *is* an alternator question

I'll start with a simple question, then give a little background. Would the voltmeter on the engine panel always show the charging voltage (approx 14v or whatever) regardless of the condition of the battery (even a fully charged one)? From my brief smattering of flight training, I did retain the hab...

On the subject of books...

I'm not sure it's still in print, but while visiting my mother in Vermont, I she handed me a 1971 printing of Alan Villier's "documentary" entitles The War with Cape Horn (Charles Scribner's & Sons, SBM 684-10624-8). This is a riveting account of the turn-of-the-century merchant sailin...

Consider me next in line :-)

We busted the casting on ours - it still works, sort of. We are definitely interested in case you (Chase) decide not to take it.

agree... 'cept possibly...

Good points Russell. The tiller in this boat (again slightly different from Alberg designs) will stow vertically and allow ful motion. It could be re-deployed instantly (I'd insist). The S1 unit actually was the first unit I looked at (thanks Ken C.) and haven't found one comparable. Don't mention a...

Good points

I'l reconsider on the power consumption front. These are tiller boats, and the 270 tiller sweeps the whole space (I can steer with one leg resting on the galley stove)! As a control-system fanatic (a little EE background) I just like the cleanliness of the concept. I'll reconsider on the power consu...

Roger that

I have a handle on the components (Raytheon, will check Edson), but cant picture the tiller position feedback arm as it's shown - doesn't the rudderpost have to continue through the arm and up through the cockpit floor? Picture shows no through-hole (vertical) on the feedback arm. By the way I sympa...

below-decks autopilot

I'm interested in researching these types due to the limited space in our cockpit. Anyone have any experience with below-deck autopilots, or even if they are a reasonable approach?

Thanks...

survey weigh-in

1. Do you try to scrub your tank or just give it a good rinse with a hose and flush it a few times? A good blast with nozzle reaching in through fillers 2. Do you use the water in your tank to drink, coffee, tea, etc? I use bottle water for drinking, tankage for dishes and toothbrushing, not because...

So: *that's* what those are for!

We have noticed the snaps on the other side of the backrests and couldn't figure out what they were for. Our cushions don't have said snaps.

Key personnel from CA

I spoke to a broker at Carolina Yacht Sales (would have to look at notes for name). He advised that Mr. Brodie was having the former Production Manager over from CA for a visit. My impression was they are trying to recruit key people from the CA operations.

I sent my resume over - what the heck!

My thing with bilge pumps

when it comes to mechanical things, I *usually* have a good situational awareness if something is not behaving as usual. Forgetting that the icebox drains into the bilge, for example, I stopped chewing a mouthful of delicious grilled steak one evening when the family was aboard to wonder why the bil...

Those are now on the list

I'll run down all those areas. I can't wait to go through the wire harness. in general. when we took possession I recall the battery check meter used to go off the scale while a multi-meter registered a normal 12v. Just moving some terminations around in the switch panel and disconnecting a shorted ...

Charging system taking holidays

OK. On ut last trip, I noticed that upon starting the engine, the volt meter has begun to take it's sweet time before responding with a proper output volyage (> 12v). It rests at 0 or near-0 for as much as 5 minutes before springing into action. Before I start problem isolation, has anyone seen this...
