Re: 25' Cape Dory-getting motor out of the well

I like the boom vang idea. I have a 6HP. Can you tell me how/where you attach the vang to the motor? And how often do you pull it?

Thanks,

Roberta

25' Cape Dory-getting motor out of the well

Is there a mechanical method of getting my outboard out of the well. Last summer was the first time I took the boat out by myself. I found that I couldn't lift it and consequently it got full of junk and didn't work most of the summer. Any information is appreciated. Roberta Moss-Jacobowitz Auburn M...

Re: Obituary: Roy A. Jacobowitz

This is Roberta, Roy's wife, and the person with the Auburn hair our boat is named after. Roy loved to sail, and he loved Cape Dory's and the Cape Dory Board. The sea trial for Nunsly was his last sail. I bought the boat for him for his birthday last fall, hoping that the anticipation of sailing a n...

Re: Might be crazy -- and need tarp size for CD-28!

Joe -- given Stan's record, I don't think I am even up to hoping to match it. I do love the BHIR and hope to participate next year, but winning would require a lot of luck or brilliant crew -- like I could ask Stan if he is free. Mostly the family and I were looking to increase our cruising range an...

Re: Might be crazy -- and need tarp size for CD-28!

Thanks everyone for your replies, good wishes and advice. I am kind of committed to silver heavy duty poly tarp this year. I have a couple of old 20x30's from Auburn covers that I will use as under layers (great idea!) and Hamilton Marine gave a good price on a 30x40, which on Auburn have done prett...

many thanks.

Might be crazy -- and need tarp size for CD-28!

Well - after a ton of health problems and not launching Auburn for 2 years, I still made the move and am the proud new owner of Nonsly, CD-28! In my opinion, a finer boat can't be found on the east coast, and the transfer from Stan W. was a pleasure. My health is improving and by the time the New En...

registered but cannot race

I registered, then found I have 2 work commitments Oct 1 (sat!). I emailed the Island Alliance to keep my reg as a donation, but if they don't or can't do that and the reg is transferrable(?), is there someone who would use it? Send me a PM.

Seems like the fizzing action is important

The peroxide and baking soda solutions both seem to be used for the fizzing -- maybe to raise the spores from the weave. Now I have two things to try before expending boat units.

the best answer I have found

http://www.876800.com/News/2011/0729/462.html This post says use a nylon brush to remove the mold or mildew -- outdoors so as not to spread it around -- then scrub w solution of water and 3% hydrogen peroxide, let sit for 15 minutes, then scrub w mild dish detergent and water solution. Sun dry. Hav...

cleaning inflatable PFD's?

Rode out Irene w no problem stripped of all windage in Salem Harbor, which is well protected from the mostly SSE winds we got. The only problem was somerainwater found it's way into the port settee locker, where it caused our inflatable PFDs to grow mold. ANy suggestions for the best way to clean 'e...

Thanks Cathy - other members please take note and act

This is really important -- the company behind this plan, Lightsquared, is run by a bunch of very connected telecoms pros and former high level FCC officials. They know how to work the application and approval processes and have the expertise to make things happen that are really not in the public i...
