Pleasant lunch in Dover Point, NH

Twenty two Cape Dorians enjoyed a sunny New England day, good company and conversation, and a pleasant lunch at Newick's Seafood today. Always good to compare notes and check out sailing plans.

Thanks to Dave Bradbury for organizing.

Extravaganza indeed!

Pam and I enjoyed Groundhog Day... it was a great meeting, good presentations, and excellent company. Fun to share sea stories and church bulletins. :) Thanks to Neil and Vicki for organizing.

See all on the water.

And the Blueberry Muffins are out of this world!

at the Chowderhouse in Potts Harbor. Pam and I look forward to joining the Maine cruise for at least part of the time. We're negotiating with our dog Murphy for permission to do the whole shebang. Whisper is now on our new mooring at Handy Boat, near Can 15. We brought her up from the Chesapeake a c...

West Marine awning

West Marine carried a ready-made awning a few years back that was absolutely super. By a few years, I mean 1998. Don't know if it's still in the catalog. We got lots of compliments for ours on the Cape Dory 36. And it was just great ... side and aft curtains, heavy canvas, easy to rig. Made the cock...

Moving Downeast

Or at least a bit downeast. Pam and I are moving to Falmouth, Maine, on August 12 after 35 years in the Chesapeake Bay region. Until we're settled, Whisper will stay in her slip at Zahniser's, Solomons Island, MD. Any suggestions as to where to keep her near Falmouth? The new address: 3 Fox Hall Roa...

Caribbean 1500 Rally

The July issue of Cruising World has an article by Paul Clancy about last November's Caribbean 1500 Rally from the Chesapeake to the BVI. Several CDSOA members participated, including Mike Thorpe, Merrie Bergmann, Cathy Monaghan, and Bruce Halley on ADAGIO, and Allen Evans and Peter van der Kam on W...

Uphill and then some

Cathy - Thanks to you and Bruce for the pictures! Our passage on Whisper was uphill the last 5 days. Three separate fronts whomped into us. Nathaniel pushed Whisper one night on watch ... close-hauled, beating the sh.. out of us, but registered 10.2 kts! Hove-to for coffee and a breather the next mo...

Search the Main Forum

David, I remember some discussion about a year ago relating to replacing hot water heaters. As I'm sure you've discovered, the Raritan cannot go back into the CD 36. It was installed at the yard before the deck went on. I did a search of the Main Forum here on Hot Water Heater, and, among other thin...

Major refit

Zahniser's in Solomons has done two major refits for us. Our Cape Dory 36 (Hull 83, 1983), was in their skillful hands from 1998-2002, and our Bristol 45.5 (Hull 74, 1990) from 2002 to date. Soup to nuts (stem to stern; keel to masthead) on both boats, and we have been very pleased with the skill, t...

Back Issue of GOB

Bill - That issue is available at the Good Old Boat website as a back issue. They only charge $7.00 for back issues, with no additional shipping charge. That's probably less hassle and almost the same cost as trying to copy and mail.

Good luck with the project.

Navigating the board

Two other tid-bits about navigating: (1) When reading a message, you will find just above the thread frame two buttons ("new topic" and "post a reply"), and to the right of those buttons some text. If you click on the leftmost part of the text (before the ->), you go back to the ...

Pitch

Bob, 10" is probably too much pitch. You can calculate the right pitch yourself using Dave Gerr's Propeller Handbook , but that's pretty tough sledding. When I changed to a MaxProp on my CD 36, I struggled through the Gerr methodology, and the boatyard (Zahniser's, Solomons Island, MD) was able...
