Butyl rubber temperature limits?
I purchased butyl rubber tape from Maine Sail a year or so ago and have been happy with it for bedding screws, etc. Now I have a water leak around my port running light and I'm thinking of using the butyl rubber to seal it, but can it withstand the heat from the incandescent bulb? Any info on temper...

Re: CD 25 berth length
Re replacement motors for a CD25, the consensus best choice is the Tohatsu 6HP 4 cycle with the high thrust prop. I have had my 1979 CD25 since 1984 and started with a 9.9 HP 2 cycle Evinrude. I currently have a 1993 6 HP Johnson 2 cycle that still works fine. If - when? - it ever dies I will get th...

Re: CD 25 berth length
I measured my starboard berth today. It is 80 inches long, including 29 inches underneath the aft shelf. That shelf is 18 inches above the plywood bottom, but you need to include the cushion depth too. My cushions are 2 inches thick. I am 6 ft even, and I can sleep on that berth. Sometimes my size 1...

Re: Get your Teak Freak on - CD25 Hatch Slides
I would encourage you to consider semi mass production of the teak hatch slides atop CD25s. Many of the originals have split and fallen apart over the many years since they were built. I recently replaced my slides with non-teak. If you are interested, I will be happy to give you exact measurements....

CD-27 in Savannah, GA
I happened across a CD-27 this weekend, on the hard at Sail Harbor Marina / Boatyard on Turners Creek, Wilmington Island - east of Savannah near the ICW. Talking to the marina owner, he said the previous owner died a few years ago, and he - the marina owner - had "given" this boat to "...

Re: Port light Insect Screens
I am a happy, satisfied customer of John's screens. I bought a set for my CD25 several years ago to replace the original plastic screens. John's look great and do a good job of keeping all the bugs out here in Savannah.

Re: non-skid deck paint color
Russell - Did you use the Sand Beige color of Interlux Interdeck? If so, was it close to the original color?
Thanks,

Re: Custom Coloring KiwiGrip
Question for bhartley - When the KiwiGrip Beige dried, was it lighter or darker than the original deck paint? And, is the molded in nonskid still visible / viable after painting it with KiwiGrip?

Re: Maintaining battery charge at mooring
I kept my CD-25 on a mooring for over five years using two el cheapo solar panels I purchased for about $40 apiece. I saw some similar the other day at Walmart. My only "regular" draw was a 0.33 w anchor light that was on every night for those years. My regular wet cell deep cycle battery ...

Are you happy with Kiwi Grip?
I am planning to paint the nonskid portion of my CD25 deck - this will be the first time since it was manufactured in 1979. I have read several posts about plans to use Kiwi Grip in the archives, but I still have a couple of questions: Did you use the "loopy goopy" roller to texture the Ki...

Re: Will 5200 bond teak?
OK - I'm definitely going the epoxy route. Is the West Six Ten Cartridge a good choice? What about the System Three Gelmagic Adhesive In U-Tah Cartridge? Any comparisons?

Will 5200 bond teak?
Through a series of mistakes, I succeeded in tearing the port cleat along with about 10 inches of the teak out of the coaming. Is there any reasonable way to bond this piece back? I have read about how tough 3M 5200 is, but will it bond teak? I would relocate the cleat to another part of the coaming...

Re: Just bought a Cape Dory 25. Looking for advise.
I have had my 1979 CD25 since 1984, and I had a 1974 CD25 before that. I have had 9.9 and 15 HPs before, but I have been very happy with my current 6 HP Johnson Sailmaster, 1994 model. A 6HP is plenty of power provided you get the long foot (I think that is 25 inches) and the high thrust propeller (...

Re: replacement motor size on CD25
When you buy the new motor, be sure to specify the "high thrust" prop - the one with big flat blades. Otherwise you won't get the push you want.

Re: Welcome to the new board!
Is the "View new posts" link the same as the old board's "View all posts since your last session"? If not, how far back does "New" go?
