Typhoon cabin cushion covers

I've replaced the original (?) blue naugahyde-type covers on the V-deck and quarter berth cushions in my Ty Weekender. They were either too "sticky" or too slippery to sleep on, so I've covered the foam with a softer waterproof heavy duty nylon (a nice teal green), with stronger, waterproo...

Re: servicing typhoon winches

I found this online a while ago. It's very instructive to review for servicing the winches and replacing parts. I had to replace my torsion springs a couple seasons ago; was able to make them out of some slightly different stainless steel springs by trimming the length of the spring "tails"...

Hi Joe. Out of curiousity, why are you selling it? Are there particular shortcomings that you couldn't accept? I've been considering getting one of these units (one of several I'm considering, actually), and would appreciate any feedback you have. I'd also like to know when you bought it, if it's st...

Try Spartanmarine.com - this is the place the previous owner bought the ones that are currently on my boat. I've been looking at upgrading to slightly larger, opening portlights... just waiting for some cash to materialize.

FWIW, I have a climbing etrier attached to a carabiner, which I clip onto either the stern cleat or backstay base. It is a 5 step etrier, enclosed in its own pouch, very easy to deploy... Metolius and Yates have nice models. You can find them online from most any rock climbing company. Better yet, t...

I have a Minn Kota Endura 46, with a 38" shaft, on my Ty. It's wired to an Exide Orbital 12v marine deep cycle with Marinco connectors. The system works really well for my particular set-up, it pushes the Ty nicely... easy in/around the marina, and out to the no-wake bouys. It no doubt has it's...

"Easy Rider" photos

Greetings all. Some time ago, when I first found this site, I remember reading about and and seeing pictures of Winthrop Fishers' boat "Easy Rider". I was quite impressed with the the work he had done on her, and was enthralled with the stories he shared about his off shore excursions with...

Suffice it to say that barnacles will be barnacles and do what they do. Paint prevents this. There are few modern alternatives. Luckily, this is a boat which can easily be hauled out and cleaned every season. The best "green" practice would be not to use any paint and manually remove the b...
