Re: CD 36 Questions/Interest

Others have answered most of your questions, I'll just add that on a single handed crossing of the pond, our former CD36 under an Aries windvane took care of herself even in horrible conditions. Very nice ride.

Seeking recommendations for an inexpensive DIY yard in MA

Hi everybody,
Might be buying yet another Cape Dory in MA and looking for an inexpensive yard to store her till summer. She's sitting on the hard already and will have to be trucked to a yard, so recommendations on low cost, reliable transport would be helpful, too.
Thanks in advance,
Greg K.

Re your typhoon

I'm in Vancouver BC and might be interested in your typhoon in the spring. Is it a weekender or daysailor, and does it come with a trailer?

I've sent you my email. Please check your PM.

Sold

New owners will keep the name and continue sailing in the Med for the time being.

They are a wonderful couple who are totally in love with the CD 36, so please do give them a warm welcome and a helping hand when they come here for advice.

Regards,

Greg

LOL... trust me, not much difference

between coastal cursing and off-shore cursing.

Engine work cursing... now, that's a level of cursing that will put fear into children and little dogs.

We put a third reef in the main after a boisterous downwind night sail down the Chesapeake from Annapolis to Norfolk in which all of the aluminum sail lugs above the second reef fractured. Like Comono Cruising we have used and continue to use the third reef quite regularly, especially these days whe...

John Vigor is absolutely right

It is just a choice. When my colleaques at the university where I was tenured got wind of my decision to quit and go cruising with my wife, many said to me "You are so lucky, wish I could do the same" My standard answer to each of them was: "You can." But, but, but....... came th...

Hi Les, The polyethelene water tanks on our 1979 CD36 had serious cracks which I was able to repair with polyetheline sticks or more commonly known as candles. I got mine at a hardware store, but they may also be available at ski repair shops. I used a soldering gun to heat the crack and melt the st...

West Marine

WM used to carry lemon oil which I have been using on the interior wood for over a decade. You might want to check to see if they still carry it. Good product with the added plus that it prevents mold.

Sounds about right

4 1/2 inches should do it, John. It's probably about how much we raised ours. Ended up doing it twice, like Russell. One unexpected advantage of a raised waterline, especially if you use black bottom paint like we do, is that the oil and tar in many harbours around the world will not mess up your to...

My 2 cents

My biggest concern about locating batteries in the engine space would be heat and accessability. Depending on your intended cruising area, of course, but if you are going to be in the tropics, it may be an issue. We cruise in Greece/Turkey during summers and it is not uncommon to have 40c+ days. On ...

Very useful info

Thanks John, That's really helpful. Can I just pick your brain with a few more questions? 1. What is the diameter of the 1/2 " long bronze screws holding the trim ring? 2. What is the threading on the 3/16X1 1/4 bronze bolts fastening the port to the cabin side? Also, how did you order the thin...

Thanks Will

Seeing some photos of the job would be nice. If you have a chance, email them to me to svsherpaAThotmailDOTcom. Or send me the link to your pic site, and I can have a look there. No hurry. The boat is presently on the hard at Marti again, and we won't be heading back there till about July this year....
