Locating seawater strainer
Michael, you can find the water line easy by connecting your hose to the seacock, open the seacock and drop the hose slowly until water begins to flow out of the end of the hose. You are right, it is very important to have good quality hoses and good clamps in the system, otherwise the engine water ...

Locating seawater strainer
Michael, I did install it above the water line but as rtbates mentioned it is not real important if you have a seacock. The Groco has a glass bowl and a location where you can see it from the side and get the internal basket in and out is handy. Neither of my strainers will keep fine grains of sand ...

Locating seawater strainer
You know, I installed a Groco model seawater strainer in the engine compartment all the time wondering if I did the right thing. Sense there is a strainer already outside on the hull. After five months of use there is very little in the basket, just a few flects of paint from the bottom job I did. I...

Digital multimeter question
If ohms is selected on your meter then ol would be a normal indication. In this mode touching the meter leads together should display aproximatly 0.0 ohms. Just a thought.

Radio Check? Reality Check
Most probably there are two separate problems: boat and handheld. If the handheld is receiving well then the antenna is ok. Two handhelds would not likely have the same problem. Could it be that you are not speaking close enough and loud enough into the handheld's mike? That would give weak signal t...

Depth Sounder and transducer
Hello Eric. I also have a 22D, a Raymarine auto-pilot and a Raymarine ST60+ depth sounder that I recently installed and I can vouch for their products. However I used the "in hull" transducer model P-79 supplied by Raymarine and manufactured by Airmar. Sense you won't be able to install th...

West Marine Batteries
West Marine batteries are made by Deka, East Penn Manufactruing Co. Excellent batteries. If you are near a Deka distributor sometimes you can save a little money but maybe not if West has them on sale. I have a pair of group 24s that were installed 4 years ago and they are still going strong. You wi...

Yanmar 1GM Problem
Dog Watch Ray got it right! Consider the para a hug ( ). You made my day bright today! Reflecting, the combination of slightly low batterys and "tapping" the starter button instead of holding it in longer seems to be the culprit. Thanks again, Charlie.

Yanmar 1GM Problem
It was a beautiful day for a sail today on Corpus Christi Bay but it wasn't to be. I've owned this 22D for about 4 years now and have never had a problem with the engine until today. Upon start-up the engine ran less than a minute and died. The alarm was sounding and there was no cooling water being...

Garmin to GPS
Good morning Carter, Maybe this will help a little. I just installed a Uniden UM525 W/DSC and a Garmin 76C. I had trouble understanding the Uniden wiring drawing and had to call them. What we came up with is as follows: The Ship ground buss, the GPS ground (black) and both serial data (-) are connec...

Thanks for your post Dean. It helps me realize that I'm not the only one spending alot on boat. If something needs a fix or replace I just can't stand to let it be.

rudder checks
2" sounds like a little much. I have a 22d in my back yard and I went out to check. Lifting at the shaft I have exactly 1/2 " of up/down travel or play in the rudder shaft. I don't think it would kill your deal but I would want to know why all the slop. Is the boat in the water? The actual...
