Chris, I'm not familiar with your particular engine and starter so let me make a few assumtions: Starter gets it's ground where it is mated to the engine block so it is probably ok. The yellow/red wire is most likely a smaller gauge control wire that actuates a relay or solenoid inside the starter i...

Gary, All my headsail sheets are eyespliced on. I guess i've just got too much time on my hands! It is smooth, I don't need to be looking for which sheets go to which sail and changing headsails is a little faster. Cheers, Charlie.

Tom, SailCare recently cleaned, repaired and recut my mainsail for a new bimini. The work was superb. My 25 year old mainsail looks and feels almost brand new. The shape is excelent and the cost was reasonable. I believe they have a winter discount going on now and I plan to send them my headsails a...

Whats on your wrist?
This board is where the sailing knowledge is! Thank you. Does anyone here use a combination wrist watch, compass and Tide data. I purchased a Timex E-Data expedition with electronic compass that proved to be so inaccurate and unreliable that I had to return it to seller. I don't know at this time if...

Teltails
Does anyone out there know how to interpret teltails that have been installed on the trailing edge of the mainsail leach? The company that repaired, cleaned and altered the mainsail installed them as part of their process so I need to learn how to interpret them. Teltails that I have learned to use ...

Da...Sorry Tom. Your question was very clear. Surely there are some boat salvage places out there that would have a used hatch. I agree with you that keeping Little Miss Magic original here would be best. Cheers, Charlie.

Mine are original and they are teak. There are 3 of them and they are about 3/4" thick, beveled and interlocking. I know they would be very expensive to fabricate but they look good and last a long time. Cheers, Charlie.

I sail with a friend on his j14 and we maneuver very well at all angles with mainsail alone but my 22 is a dog without some mainsail and some jjib! Review some recent posts for alot more discussion of this subject. Cheers. Charlie.

Gel coat question
What color tint or tints would one use to go from white to Cape Dory hull offwhite? Black? I need to fill a small gouge before relaunch post Ike and have never worked with gel coat before. Thank you and Cheers. Charlie

Forgot to mention, If you do use a sling be sure to tie the forward sling in place. There has been several accidents with the forward sling sliding off forward and dropping the bow! Cheers, Charlie

A sling under the rudder is a bad idea. My Cape Dory owners manual states illustration 5.29 "Be careful not to locate the after strap under the rudder." I use a trailer and a 20' extension tongue that works at most good ramps and, by the way, I use all of that 20'. I pull the boat in/out 3...

Jeff, let us know how it works out. It probably won't fix the problem but it might. It is just the next step in troubleshooting. If it were me I would install a new fuel pump just to eliminate it from being the problem. They are not very expensive and it is easier than trying to test for fuel quanti...

Good Morning Jeff, Did you bleed the fuel system all the way to the injector? Does the engine surge at lower levels of throttle? Is the fuel pump delivering fuel to the secondary filter mounted aft on engine? Installing a new injector isn't that big of a deal and not that expensive just for troubles...

Very interesting and helpful post Troy, thank you. I usually tie in a lot of downhaul that flattens and moves the main draft slightly forward and down and that seems to help also.Cheers, Charlie.
