Recall that the top of the loop needs to be above the water line of the ship.

I lash mine horizontally, just slightly off of center as I find that it rides much easier on the mooring. I made a cover out of sunbrella material that I purchased from Sailrite. I did the same for my Typhoon Weekender and never had any bearing problems for the 25 years I owned the ship.

I'm Jealous

It is moments like these that make me regret selling my Typhoon Weekender.

in the back of the crypt ...

I am ashamed to admit that I have, in the dark recesses of my garage, a British Seagull Engine. It will run forever. Spew oil, yes; a b%^&*^ to start when you really need it, an unqualified yes; did it ever leave me stranded, no. You can repair it with a knife, a screw diver and a pair of pliers...

Hatch Strength

I would suggest that building a low doghouse over the sliding hatch would be the only feasible solution if you absolutely have to use the hatch area as a walkway.

It depends on the quantity of the oil that gets into the loop current which is dependent upon how quickly they get this mess under control. So far, I am UNDERWHELMED by the response, planning and expertise show by BP. Everything that they have been telling us couldn't happen ... has. It reminds me o...

Spill revisited

I heard on Public radio today that they have detected oil in the Gulf Loop current. If so the oil should reach Key West in about a week.

Oarlocks

I made a set of oar locks for my Typhoon Weekender that mounted on the winches. I used Very long oars and could paddle either facing forward or rearward. I found that for distance it was easier to face rearward.

Great Gulf Current Circulation

With the natural clockwise circulation of the currents in the Gulf I expect to see the entire West Coast of Florida affected by the spill. Normal current flow brings the water from south of Jamaica, past the west of Cuba up along Texas, Miss, Ala then down along the West Coast of Florida at approxim...

We sailed in my Typhoon with my children from the time that they were 1 year old with no lifelines and no problems. It was mandatory that they all wore a VERY good life jacket and when they became old enough to understand we taught them boating safety. I have a mental image of my oldest, now 27 and ...

Portlights

I purchased a Typhoon new in 1980 from Fair Winds Marine in Illinois and the Ports were on the side of the deck house. As far as I know, they have been there for the entire production run.
