Re: Evaluating spider cracks

Definitely dreml out each crack - then fill with epoxy and filler, make sure the dreml creates a sufficiently wide and deep area so the epoxy can grab onto the area beneath the gelcoat. You may even find the cracks are in the epoxy layer. The second photo looks pretty serious and the gelcoat may jus...

Re: Roller furling for a Typhoon

I used the working jib for 2 years on my 1976 typhoon then installed the CDi #1 roller furler with a Genoa - it is so easy to drop the main then sail into the dock with the Benny rolled in part way - so easy to do. I just bought a replacement Ginny from Vermont sailing partners - reasonable price fa...

Re: New Typhoon Owner! And, Project List!

Markst95 - I like the hinge idea - did you pop rivet the hinges or are they short bolts? Stiffening the covers is also a good idea. I need to do this as well as make an opening for the battery cable for the electric motor. I made a connection box that reaches under the seat then I take the electric ...

Re: New Typhoon Owner! And, Project List!

port tack - as for refinishing teak I use Cetol Light - after a light sanding wipe with acetone then put on the first coat of cetol. Wait until it dries - about a day then add a second coat. Add a 3rd coat a day later. Add a fresh coat the following year with a very light wiping with an abrasive spo...

Re: New Typhoon Owner! And, Project List!

Definitely install a topping lift. I put a small block at top of mast them attach to the roller furling tang at aft end of boom. The other end goes to a clam cleat about2 feet from bottom of mast with a standard clear above. I slack the topping lift once the main is up and when ready to end the day ...

Re: New Typhoon Owner! And, Project List!

Congrats on the Typhoon - she sails like a much larger boat! I have a Ty of similar age that I have restored and the most important thing you can do is to rebed all hardware. When I did mine I found that the old caulking was hard and not working and was only partially filled under the hardware from ...

Re: Cape Dory 25 taking on water ????

Check the joker valve for the head - this could allow a lot of water into the boat especially if the intake is on the starboard side and as the boats movement forces water back up the head intake. Water would come in from the toilet bowl or a cracked intake pipe or cockpit drain that is on the starb...

Re: Typhoon fore stay replacement

 The CDi furler requires its own forestry whereas others may it. I put a roller curler on my typhoon and wouldn't leave the dock without it! I did save the original forestry just in case I ever wanted tore turn to using the small jib. I do not miss going up on the foredeck to retrieve the sail...

Re: Is this a Typhoon

It sure looks like an early Typhoon - check under the aft quarter for a sign that u=indicates the date of manufacture - usually fiberglassed into the gelcoat either on the inside of the hull or on the interior liner (if any) . No HIN because this boat was made before it was required. You could have ...

cd 10 for sale

https://vermont.craigslist.org/boa/d/wi ... 30146.html

Just saw this in Vermont Craigslist - a project CD10. Have not seen the boat but the photos show the work required. For $200 it might be a nice winter project for someone!

Re: Boom Vang Weekender

I still use the original boom slot and vang with short cable and ball but I attach the base end of the vang to a metal sail slide/slug with nylon slug (designed for a J-24) that I slide into the sail groove at the base of the mast before stepping the mast. It works great! It also increases the angle...

CD10 motor mount

Has anybody installed a motor mount on their CD 10? I have the double hull model and am thinking of installing a motor mount for a 2.5 hp motor. Does anyone have experience with this boat and a motor? It rows so easily it is hard to believe that I want to do this but ......it might be good for troll...

Re: CD Typhoon winter cover

I made two mast supports - one for the bow and one for the stern. They are about 18" high and have a channel for the mast to lay in. Supports are like an H. Then I made a "T" out of 2 x 4 lumber that also has a "U" at the top to straddle the mast amidship just aft of the com...
