former CD owner looking for crew for a few days sailing

I will be sailing my Baba 35 back from her summer mooring in Tiverton, RI to Portland, Ct (up the CT river). It can be a couple of days sailing in very fair winds, or several days when the winds are adverse. If anyone on the Board would like to join me, please contact me at the email below. The pros...

Rudder shaft corrosion

Troy, I think it's a good idea to protect the rudder shaft from galvanic corrosion by connecting it to the bonding system, but I don't think crevice corrosion will be prevented by bonding. We are in the process of replacing our chainplates due to crevice corrosion, even though the chainplates are bo...

rudder shaft corrosion

We are former Cape Dory owners (now have a Baba), but check out the CD board occasionally. On our Baba I was concerned about a lack of protection for the stainless rudder shaft. I cut a piece of copper foil (the same material used for SSB grounding), connected it with a hose clamp to the rudder shaf...

a few days sailing

I'm a former Cape Dory owner (now have a Baba) and will be moving my boat from the Conn River to RI next week. I enquired last fall on this board and a Cape Dory owner joined me for the trip going the opposite direction. If anyone would like a few days sailing on a comfortable and well equipped boat...

looking for crew

Hello, I am a former Cape Dory owner, who now owns a Baba 35. I actually sold my Cape Dory to a sailor on this board, and I continue to read the board occasionally for all of the great advice. I am planning on moving my boat from Rhode Island to Connecticut this coming weekend, but my regular sailin...

Thanks to the CD Board

After several years of ownership, we have sold our CD27 to another CD Board member. While signing the papers, sitting with the new owners in the cockpit, a fellow on a passing boat yelled "I used to own that boat". I think he was the previous owner but one. The owner who sold her to us kep...

Pre-purchase CD36 questions.

We just looked at a 1984 CD36 that has been in the water year round for most of her life in the Northern Chesapeake. The boat has not been covered but has had a bubbler to prevent ice around the hull. Is anyone aware of particular problems related to this kind of storage? There does appear to be mor...

Spartan seacocks

We got red grease at the local NAPA store; they have it in stock most of the time. For the wrench, I took an extra wrench of the proper size and ground it down on a bench grinder. Works fine and cost very little.

honey teak

Our Cape Dory 27 had Honey Teak on the coamings and the outside of the toerails, and no finish on the inside of the toerails We decided to do the inside of the toerails with Cetol as it is an easier finish to use, and then after comparison decide which finish to continue with in the future. Oddly, w...
