more alternator stuff

O J Yup, we do have a CD 25 with a 9.9 outboard, but its still a yard ornament, not a boat yet... although another few weeks and she should have a wet bottom :!: What I was referring to with regards to the electrical demands of today's modern automotive/marine propulsion is that just about every com...

only a couple months

Folks - All of you! Pat and I have only been CD owners for a couple of months, and I consider threads like this, not only worth categorizing into FAQ's, but after a while when the content gets big enough, maybe we should consider even publishing in a book that can be offered up for sale (Cape Dory's...

On the Boyd Bandwagon

I'm going to have to jump on the Boyd bandwagon (again) with this topic. My area of expertise is computer engineering, but I had to go through a lot of electrical and mechanical theory to get here :) . And, even though I'm a teacher, above all, I'm a learner too. I won't take anything on say-so, I h...

don't skimp

M I C --- see you real soon, K E Y --- Why? because I took a shortcut :!: MOUSE! If you plan on taking the boat back out in a few weeks or months because the "fix" didn't work, I'd say try the JB Weld trick as described, (but rightly so disclaimed) by OJ. IMHO though, just as you wouldn't ...

no offense

No offense taken :D . I served in the early 70's on DD 853 (old WW II Destroyer). I know that anyone who serves in the military is a tribute to this great country. My 21 year old son is right now in the Persian Gulf aboard CVN 65 USS Enterprise. Nuke EM-3 Justin Thomson has made his Dad proud. WE kn...

thanks Tony

One of the issues that I saw as being a potential challenge was the need to be making adjustments when wind condition changes. I'm thinking about extending the outhaul bitter end through a series of blocks or loops along the boom and terminating it on a cleat on the boom up close to the mast. This w...

Loose Footed Main

We're finally ready to think about a launch date! A couple of rainy weekends have slowed us down, but I'm thinking mid July! The new mainsail was ordered from Porpoise Sailing in Sarasota FL a few weeks ago. The sailmaker asked me if we preferred a loose footed main... I told him I wasn't sure. Is t...

As Homer would say...

Doooh! :!: Two weeks ago I saw a guy lose his Toyota Rav4 down a ramp, while trying to back in his 18' speedboat. He tried to speed down the ramp and lock up the brakes to extract the boat from the trailer... Couldn't stop at the bottom. It was hard not to laugh as he climbed out of his truck...

Good Deal!

Any time Mike, glad to help out. Looking forward to getting the book too, what a good deal! BTW, your old forestay is going on Play it Again Sam this weekend, and we're going to see about practicing getting the mast up and down. I got a new SS tabernacle from Dwyer Masts, and we're ready to try it o...

South Florida Sailing

I guess this is a good time to pipe up with the South Florida Brag. We can go boating on any day that ends with a "Y" . There's no 'season' to speak of, other than the one when all the up-northers are down here cluttering our waterways  . This time of year its pretty vacant on the wa...

A former Cuttyhunker

I've seen Buzzard's Bay at its worse, and at its best. As a child, I lived on Cuttyhunk Island year round for several years, as well as spending most of the summers of my life up until the mid 1970's. My famliy ran the Cuttyhunk Store up on the hill from 1959 until the early 1990's. The Ferry trip f...
