FS: Cape Dory 28 1982 #318 - SOLD!!!
The time has come that I need to sell KAYLA. She is currently located in Niceville Florida. She has very recent standing rigging replacement and basically new sails. I got back into motorcycles after getting new sails and now spend more time riding than sailing! Please contact via text at eight 5 ze...

Re: Universal engine goes straight to highest rpms (not runa
I'll let you know exactly how it got fixed when I get a chance to talk with my buddy that did the trick. Basically, he just "fiddled" with the governor (tapping it) and we ran the engine a few more times with vise grips ready to shut close the fuel line (hose). After several iterations it...

Re: motoring into a fresh breeze
So anyway my question is, would a more powerful motor have made any difference? Or when you're going straight into a fresh breeze is that just too much to ask? Curious if others have had that experience. Short answer, probably not... Long answer, maybe but more power comes with extra weight shiftin...

Re: Furling Drum Rotation Direction?
So let me ask this. Do I understand this correctly? If the sail furls up clockwise (looking down from the top) the UV guard is on the port side? Yes, that would be correct. However, with the furling line coming along the port side, the sac cloth is typically on the starboard side and the sail rolls...

Re: Engine sump
I empty the engine pan with a fuel bulb: about 1 ft. of stiff hose to insert into the pan and about 6 ft. of flexible rubber hose from the bulb up through the companionway, over the bridge deck, and down into a cockpit drains. Didn't think the bulb would lift to that height, but it works. That won'...

Re: Universal engine goes straight to highest rpms (not runa
My first guess is a stuck governor. We had the same problem with a Yanmar 3GM30 that had been on the hard for 3+ years. I'll let you know exactly how it got fixed when I get a chance to talk with my buddy that did the trick.

Re: Inexpensive Online Sailmaker for Typhoon
I also concur with contacting Precision Sails. I received great service and an excellent price when I bought new sails for KAYLA, our CD28. One detail I failed to state properly was that I only wanted 2 reefs... this was translated to a typical third reef and the "other reef" halfway down....

I do not recall any instruments being listed as "standard" in the Cape Dory brochures.

Re: CD 25D Issues
The number one, most important issue with any furler system is having proper alignment for the furler line. Your line lead should be exactly perpendicular to the middle of the drum. This will allow the line to scroll up and down on the drum as you unfurl the sail. You should also keep minor tension ...

Re: CD25 Outboard help needed!
One potential problem with propane is that it is heavier than air. You MUST insure your tanks are properly insulated and vented for safety.

Re: CD25 Outboard help needed!
Damian, I just looked up the Tohatsu specs and see that extra handle. Is it not possible to just remove the rear handle? The engine I was reviewing was the MFS4D. As a side note, many people really overpower their CD25. The 2 that I have bought both came with 9.5 outboards that were true PITA to pul...

Re: CD25 Outboard help needed!
One option would be to lower the mounting board a bit. Just need to measure distance from the water to the top when loaded with typical motor weight & passengers. I didn't have this problem as my motor spent most of it's time on the cabin sole. One of the advantages of being able to sail in and ...

Re: SB8 Engine Oil Problem
First thing I would check is for the wire from the sending unit being disconnected. Secondly (which I imagine you already did?) is to check the oil level with the dip stick.
