Re: Volvo Penta MD7A - Reverse Gear Box
The MSB (aka: reverse gear) is, in fact water cooled. It is the "first" recipient of fresh water, even before the raw water pump! I have never done anything special for, but alas, KAYLA & I live in the Northwest Florida Panhandle and rarely if ever have major freezes.

If you're "on good terms" with your dentist, they may provide you with some old dental picks.

Re: Transport advice
Thanks for these suggestions. They would work for the "transport" part of the quandary, but not the "rigging" part, since I have never done that before and would need someone to guide me. Any thoughts? Any Typhooners in Alexandria willing to help me out for an hour or two in exc...

Re: 25D vs. 27
Every review I read about Alberg boats mentions the long overhangs, usually in the first paragraph. Looking at the profile, they sure do look long. I'm not sure how to square this concern with his promotion of the 25D in his books. While all of Alberg's designs have nice lines and "some" ...

I also wouldn't attempt to convert a keel stepped to a deck stepped mast. THAT makes me uncomfortable :) I did not suggest converting from "keel stepped" to "deck stepped"... I just stated that there are other ways to solve the problem. When I get a chance, I will post pics of t...

Re: 25D vs. 27
How do you use a tabernacle with a keel step mast? The mast is cut and a hinge is installed. A friend of mine had one built and installed on his Elite 37 so he could clear the 48 ft bridges at Destin and Ft Walton Beach with out having to clip the mast & main sail. Unfortunately, the engineerin...

Re: 25D vs. 27
If I have to modify the boat to provide some sort of hinge (like a tabernacle) that the mast can pivot against around that's fine. I don't think I could handle a keel-stepped mast, so if I run into one of those I won't buy that boat. If you add a tabernacle hinge to the mast, you are better off wit...

Comparing a Beneteau First 32 to dang near any Cape Dory is apples vs oranges... at least in my book!
So much more depends upon the skill of the crew and the condition of the sails, especially with big wind and/or waves.
