Ques re Rigolets to Lake Pontchartrain transit

Hi Folks! My wife & I recently moved to Mandeville LA but had to leave KAYLA in Niceville. We are planning to sail her over in March, but I have recently heard rumor that one of the bridges between Pontchartrain & the Rigolets is disabled. Can anyone confirm this fact? I have been looking th...

Depowering the mainsail

Hi Gary, Congrats on the Ty! They are fine boats, I've had two of them over the years. As for your question, in high winds you actually want to depower the main so that you don't heel as much. My preferred method is to reef but that's not the only way. If it's just an off & on gusty day (or I'm ...

Love FULL batten mains, personally

Hi Paul D. After getting a new full-batten main on my CD25, I will most likely never go back. The first major expense for KAYLA was a new full-batten main also... Since we raced her a good bit and sailed quite often, after five years, I did have one of them wear thru the leech boot. Luckily, when I ...

CD28 bow pulpit upgrade - PICS CORRECTED!

Hi Folks, Just in case anyone's interested, we just finished adding an extra 12 feet of stainless to our bow pulpit. She now has a very strong pulpit and is ready for the future addition of a second life line. Because of her oversized bowsprit and double ground tackle, I designed the lower section t...

Slightly smaller with padded luff

If you do go the roller furling route, I highly suggest going somewhere between a 135% to 145% head sail and ask for a "padded luff." This will allow better shape and performance when you do need to reef. On my prior CD25, I stayed with hank on jibs and bought two, a 155% & 100%. I als...

If you have a three-button mouse...

The middle button can be configured to auto-magically open the link in either a new tab or new window. Many mice with scroll-wheels use the a press of the scroll-wheel as the "middle" button.

Hope this helps!

Kudos to Bruce Halley for the LED article!

Just read the great article (and looking forward to the future installments!) in the Masthead about converting away from incandescent lamps.

Many "Thank You"s!!!

Main sail chaff...

Yes, this can be an issue, especially with a full batten main. We just spent $200 on KAYLA's 5 year old main for patches and reinforcements at points were the sail would touch the shrouds going down wind. However, I must add that we also did a lot of racing for several years. We also made more 60+ m...

Just testing..... blah, blah, blah... I have listed the boat with RCR Yachts in Youngstown, NY (on Lake Ontario) and it is in the water until the fall. You can see pictures on <a target="_blank" href="http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/boatDetails.jsp?currency=USD&units=Feet¤c...

Roller furling vs Storm...

We always try to remove sails when battening down for a TS or hurricane. For Ivan (2004), the there was a jam that forced me to leave the head sail up so I made sure the sheets and furling line were well secured. That was the last storm that our marina has allowed boats on our docks to stay. For Den...

We used the original plate that bolts to the exhaust manifold and, if I remember correctly, had to add a coupling to match the size of the nifty left-and-right hand threads of the Yanmar coupling. The elbow was about 170 degrees and with a short piece of hose, the plastic muffler sits very nicely on...

MD7A muffler replacement

I replaced the custom stainless steel muffler with a Yanmar mixing elbow, some black iron pipe fittings and a small fiberglass muffler. Works great, makes it a bit easier to get to the water pump and it has a much higher lift from the exhaust manifold. If anyone is interested, I'll try to get some p...
