Cockpit locker "lids"
I saw this in a magazine, I believe. They glued some velcro-like fasteners to the inside of the lids for a few handy, general purpose lines. On my Typhoons, I would tie several plastic wash tubs end-to-end and slide them from the cuddy cabin onto the "quarter berths" for miscellaneous stor...

Downwind sail shape w/ topping lift
Hi Ned, From my experience, being able to use the topping lift in combo with a vang or preventer, I could ease the main halyard and lift/steady the boom to some what bag the main for optimum performance far off the wind or wing-n-wing. I think it helps even more for smaller/lighter boats when there ...

My CD28 also has the "blockless" topping lift
On my second Typhoon, I added a substitute topping lift by attaching a small cheek block as close as possible to the top of the mast. Combined with a boom vang or preventer, an easily adjustable topping lift can be invaluable when sailing down wind in light air. The two together help keep the boom f...

Sail On, Robert!
Hot DAMN for Robert!!! I sure hope he is out sailing! Both of my prior Typhoon's also had hoses going straight to the closest seacocks. I sort of like the idea of crossing the hoses, but that would consume a lot of space. Hmmm, if I took the Volvo out of KAYLA, there would be plenty of room to cross...

Purge with plunger from "above"...
The plunger idea doesn't have to be done from the outside... Just use a bucket and put several inches of water into the cockpit. Then use your plunger to purge the drain from the "safety" of the cockpit! Mike's suggestion of an airlock is right on! When Tadpole was on the hard, there was n...

Ques: Marina status in Biloxi MS
Hi Folks, Due to a job transfer, we are now moving to Biloxi. We just sort of got settled in Mandeville LA but, "life is what happens while you're making other plans..." When I brought KAYLA over from Niceville FL last month, we stopped at the Point Cadet fuel dock one night, but the marin...

Off-the-wall-possibilty...
Is there any chance that some translucent debris (leaves, butterfly wings, etc.) could have gotten in the cockpit drains just enough to stop a gentle rain from draining? I remember seeing the simplest things slow or stop the drains on my Typhoons. Just a thought.

WHATTABUMMER!!!
Hi John, That is very distressing news! I have also been a great fan of Garmin products for many years. Several years ago, my 48 started acting flaky - the lithium battery was nearly dead after only about 2 years. I was told then that it would cost $100 to have it refurbished. Since the battery was ...

Sampson Trophy braid for jib sheets
I hope I'm not too late into this, but I highly recommend Samson Trophy braid for cruising jib sheets. This line has a very comfortable feel and is pretty durable. I must admit that we have worn an ugly section on KAYLA's port sheet, but that was caused by too way much "serious" racing... ...

Use a 4- or 6-to-1 purschase boom vang!
At least that worked great for me! I built the vang with Harken bullet blocks and lots (and lots!) of tail on the line. That way I could fully collapse the vang, attach one end to the halyard and the other to the jib tack shackle and then cleat the halyard off. With some tension applied to the vang,...
