I think you made an excellent choice!
Many times, I still miss my Typhoons... but such is life.

YIKES!!!

Michael: Was that a 'per o-ring' price? If so, we need to spec a spare and check with McMaster-Carr! That seems like for more than I ever paid for them and I'm pretty sure I bought half a dozen the last time I got some. The last Volvo dealer I worked with (and got great service from!) was Marine Mai...

Hi Mark, You should be able to get them from most any decent Volvo dealer - if their willing to look up the part number for you... and they aren't very expensive at all. I should have the number floating around somewhere but I won't be seeing KAYLA for another week or so - headed to Niceville FL thi...

Ditto on digital! You can generate a PDF file for free using OpenOffice, then those that must can print their own copy.

Hi Robert! Something I do with halyards is "catch" the spreader so that the bottom section of the lowers apply a little tension (on the way to the whisker pole mount) and nothing is close enough to the mast to make to make noise. Enjoy your Guinness and I hope you have a great sail real so...

Congrats on both(?) Typhoon & bride! When getting the new head sail, make sure they pad the luff well for roller furling. That will help maintain a more functional shape as you reduce sail for heavy air. We replaced the 145% on KAYLA with 135% and have frequently (had to!) sailed it as a 70% or ...

Hi Duncan,

Is the mast 1 piece? I had a Trinka 12 years ago that used a 2-piece mast. The mast & boom stored very nicely in side the boat.

Re: The Importance of Being an Earnest compass

In the prologue to his book "Compass" Alan Gurney tells the wonderful tale of a decked-out, fully electronic, very expensive sailing ship launched in 1998. In the first night out, a moonless, pitch-black night, all electronics fail. At that point the skipper realizes that there was not a ...

Re: Plastic coffee cans

Steve,

Great idea! I'll have to scout around the complex for other coffee drinkers - give me a chance to meet some more neighbors! (We just moved again, 2nd time in 7 months...)

Can't wait to get a slip here in Biloxi and have KAYLA close by again!

Add a used dryer sheet!

If you're storing towels, sheets, etc., in large freezer bags for any extended time, adding a used dryer sheet will keep them smelling fresh too!

First... give it a try!

Hi Gary, Before getting too worried about the 4 degree error, I suggest you give it a go as it is. If it does not track properly on both tacks, then I'd consider moving the pin on the tiller. The prior hole could filled with a small piece of teak and smoothed out. Plus I suspect that pin is easier t...

I grab a sail tie, put the loop around the tiller and take it to the windward cleat. You know, I've always wondered about those "Tiller Tamer" gizmos that seem to do exactly the same thing as a [free] piece of leftover line from the bottom of a cockpit locker. My "problem" with ...
