You navigate the same way they (I) did before gps and loran-you left out one critical item-you need a compass-a chart-a clock and some means of measuring your speed (so make that 2 items)-if you leave the dock without the above items-(also include binoculars 3 items) you are not very smart-head from...

lightning

We pretty much got struck by lighting Tuesday afternoon trying to get into Cutyhunk pond during the height of a nasty squall of the Mass/RI coast It was hitting everywhere around us but after I tied up I found the in line fuses for the vhf, am/fm and the radar where all blown. They are are located c...

your best bet is a r/v sales place-or catalogue-they have all sizes and dimensions of sinks that will work-I changed mine out to one that was deeper-the interior of an rv and a sailboat are very similiar-

My 1974 cd 28 is packed with waterproof grease at the top-there is a hole in the rudder tube where it protrudes above the deck and every 10 years or so I pick out the hard dry grease and use a grease gun with a grease fitting and force some new stuff in there-I have never had a problem with water-O ...

Now you know! your configuration was a little different than mine but that's how they got it in there!-now make sure you sort out the fuel tanks-the prop shaft-the stuffing box etc-Its a great confidence builder isn't it? the md 11 weighs around 400lbs-its a monster-but its been running for 20 years...

I lifted the engine off its mounts with the chainfall and tapped the 4 x4's forward with a hammer and it came right out-it might help to have someone in the rear liftng the tranny and making sure your clear the mounts in the rear-they got it in somehow! its got to be able to come out!~

Use the 4x4's across the companionway with a chain fall-Ive done it several times-if your motor has been in there since 1978 plan on cutting and replacing the prop shaft-then its just the motor mount nuts-the exhaust and water hoses, the linkages and the fuel line and the cable to the starter-you mi...

I have had excellent results clear coating oak trim for my kitchen and bathroom with west system epoxy-I actually sanded down a scrap piece of teak and clear coated it and the results were very good-I wonder what I would be accused of if I did it to the teak on the boat? It looks like varnish and ma...

whenever you "mess" with a diesel fuel system -do one thing at a time-change one fuel filter-make sure you don't have any airleaks-them move on to the next one-if you change all of your filters and or some of the lines you will now have a very difficult time finding the leaks- rub motor oi...

I have washed my cushion covers in the washing machine without any problems- you can use either a home washing machine or one at the laundromat-on gentle-if they fall apart you needed new ones-I would not wash the foam-it might never dry-you will find out real quick if it is "closed cell"f...

You may find the fuel tank is slightly larger than the cockpit seat opening. On my cd 28 they put the tanks in 1st prior to installing the motor. My steel tanks rusted at the bottom so I pulled the engine to replace them. I assume you have steel tanks as well, If you do not wish to remove the engine...

I have a 1974 cd 28-hull # 13-so its one of the oldest for sure-I have reinforced the bow and stern plates with aluminum and my port and starboard plates look pretty much like the ones in the photos-mine maybe 3-4' long-extending on both sides of the chainplates and the life line stanchion etc are a...

I did the exact same thing with the exact same boat-a cd 28 and the exact same motor a volvo md 2B? about 20 years ago-but even simpler-I simply nailed 2 2x4's together-placed them across the companionway hatch and used a come-along like you did-once the engine lifted I tapped the 2x4's with a hamme...
