Re: 1 GM leaking water

As you are an old hand on this board, I'm certain that you have considered (since others have not yet suggested) that the leak of 6 inches in 2 days MAY be due to a stuffing box issue. Perhaps a strong ehgine run in Fwd&Rvs for a few minutes each will help staunch the waterflow that you are expe...

Re: 12V Bible Just be advised than when he references "TRANSDUCERS", he means 'energy absorbing devices-- Nav/interior/exterior Lights/Motors-starter&refrig/bilge- and Electronics................ie. anything that uses 12V power. Took me awhile to get my mind off the depthsounder thing-...

Re: Chelsea Ships Bell Clock Repair Question

I'd be happy to vouch for a clockmaker in VirginiaBeach, Va by the name of Steve Long, doing business as THE TIME MACHINE. He cleaned and refurbished a non-running 1890's wall clock for me 5 years ago (still running strong and timely), and currently has my late father's 1960-ish USNavy tribute clock...

Re: ....In Search Of....Traditional Rope-work Bow Fender

Bill, I googled 'traditional rope bow fender' and Page 2 has a number of US/Australian/English providers.

If spring wasn't so tantalizingly close, you could attempt " http://www.instructables.com/id/boat-fender-diy/ ".
Perhaps next winter. Good luck.

Re: 25D accomodations

Seconding Roberto- The tube is Stainless Steel, the top fits into the table fitting, which is (if memory serves) aluminum. I can imagine that, if the table has been mounted for a length of time, that the 2 metals may have some corrosion inhibiting removal. -A rubber hammer, applied from below the ta...

Re: Difficulty cranking engine

++ on the Grounding System. My 25D had the same click/click sound....finally found a loose AND dirty ground strap attached to the engine block. A little sandpaper, alcohol and a retightened nut and it was like new! Now cranks everytime, all the time. Also later replaced the control panel starter swit...

Re: 25d leak

Was that 3" of water IN the engine sump, or IN the bilge, or IN the cabin (which would be 3" OVER the floorboards)? -- in the pan or bilge, no big deal. -- over the floorboard- put the boat on the hard until you figure it out. If heavy rain was not an issue (SeaHunt has an interesting thre...

Re: Rudder question

Perhaps a too-simple "temporary fix" would be to use a Zinc Doughnut Collar in lieu of the SS ring? This would eliminate the necessity of removing/dropping/raising the rudder shaft? AND..... it's 2 parts that can just be placed around the rudder post, and is held by 2 captive bolts/nuts. U...

Re: Cd 25D chain locker

Martin, odd as it seems, I have had some luck heaving-to w/the backed jib (probably a 110/120%).... and leaving the mainsheet loose in its blocks and (surprising to me) not tying the tiller tightly, but leaving it almost center-lined. Somehow, the boat rounds up using the freed mainsail's lift and t...

Re: Replace damaged rubrail section on CD25

You gotta love a rubrail that does its job.
Sorry to hear about the damage, but that's one tough hull.
Didn't see any holes! And Scuffed is better than Total Loss.

Best of luck.

Re: Replace damaged rubrail section on CD25

Look carefully. Your Rubrail closely approximates the 25D rubrail. I'm betting that removing the bungs and screws of the damaged piece (and perhaps a little judicious use of a heatgun and paintscraper) will allow you to remove the damaged outer piece. I, too, thought it was an integral piece when I ...

Re: Replace damaged rubrail section on CD25

Same problem occurred w/a piling and my 25D. Your 'worn' part sits on the surface of the larger teak rail. Remove the outer piece (scarf saw, fine Japanese saw, etc), and replace w/your repair piece. Short wood is harder to mold to the curve of the boat, but it can be done. Bung the new screw holes,...

Re: Proper Care of Unstepped Mast, Furler, etc.

Agree w/removing genoa, supporting and tying off shrouds and halyards. Support of RollingDrum and foils is essential. Easy enough to figure a way to support the extended furler foil/drum for the short trip home. Personally, I removed the boom prior to unstopping mast (Less weight when unstepping, an...

Re: I need a new mainsail cover

I used Sailboat-Owners last summer to replace a totally worn custom measured mainsail cover (12 years of continuous exposure). -Price is good. -Turnaround time is quick. -The material is Sunbrella. -Twist metal release toggles were extra (helps to keep mudwasps out), delrin buckles are standard. Not...
