February 18: Chesapeake Fleet Annual Groundhog Day Extravaganza

SOLOMONS ISLAND, MD

This year’s Groundhog Day Extravaganza will be held at the Solomons Island Holiday Inn Select on Saturday, February 18th, and promises to get your spring sailing off to a proper start. Remember to mention when you call for your reservation that you are with the Cape Dory Club (Use Reservation ID: CDB) to get the discounted rate.

We will hold the briefest possible meeting to entertain any Fleet business. Seminars and details of the coming season’s cruises will be presented. Add in dinner and the chance to chat with those who truly understand your passion for the Cape Dory for a superb weekend.

Here’s the tentative schedule ;

Registration:
12:30-1:00 PM -- Outside our normal reserved room

Business Meeting:
1:00 PM -- Meeting begins with a very short business meeting

1:15-1:30 PM -- First Scheduled talk begins
Chesapeake Rigging in Annapolis –Mike Meer
( When was the last time your rigging was inspected, tuned or replaced ? )

2:00-2:15 PM -- North Sails of Annapolis
Cruising spinnakers – new designs

3:00 -3:45 PM -- Fawcett’s of Annapolis
Safety on board

Afternoon Break:
4:00 – 6:00 PM -- Go back to hotel rooms to clean and change clothes or take naps or maybe do both

Cocktails & Dinner:
6:00-7:00 PM -- Meet and great everyone out side our reserved room prior to dinner. We will have a cash bar for everyone as before.

7:00 PM -- Dinner ( see menu below)

After Dinner Bud Menchey will go over (for David Hepting Cruise Director) the upcoming three cruises planned for the Bay during our 2006 sailing season. Then Past Commodore Peter Van Der Kam will tell “ tales “ on all of us from the last 10 years of getting together for events. Peter’s dry wit and good memory will no doubt make for many laughs for all of us.

Payment for this event will be $ 45.00 per person . This will pay for the hors D’ Oeuvres, dinner, bartender rental, room rental, and 8 delicious bottles of wine for the dinner tables. I need to know no later than 10 days before the event ( February 8, 2006) your choice for dinner .

1. Roast Prime Rib of Beef w/ au jus & Horseradish Sauce

2. Chicken Cordon Bleu

3. Filet of Salmon w/Herb Cheese in Puff Pastry.

Includes Tossed Garden Salad , Seasonal Vegetables Medley,

Carrot Cake, Ice Tea and Coffee
